I prefer when music was marginalised for nearly half a century before it was ever recorded or written about. Blues songs like “In the Pines” have been around since the 1870s but were never written down or recorded until much later.
Post blues music and anything related to it. What do you think makes the blues blues? Groove? Emotion? Feeling? Soul?

Folk music is more iffy. How do you know you’re even getting the original version?

Not blues but Jersey Giant was an unreleased Tyler Childers track that eventually goy covered by fifty people.
And Radiohead has Burn the Witch and True Love Waits not getting official studio releases until their last (and final) album.
