When did YouTube become so shit for discovering new music? Just a few years ago I'd find all kinds of obscure artists that became my favourite just by YouTube recommending them to me randomly. Now the recommended tab is just things you've listened to 100 times or AI generated sounds with 10 views.

It’s even worse on Spotify. They’ve replaced all avenues for discovering new music with top 100 and podcast bullshit.

The algorithms just got too good at keeping you engaged for the longest while, which is what makes Google money. You're getting edged with slightly above mid stuff now rather than potentially instantly cooming to some random find and closing the tab/app.

7-8 years ago.

I unironically blame all the Frutiger Aero and Barber Beat zoomers who insist on flooding the algorithm with aesthetic-driven music that all sounds the same.
