The good thing about being old is that I'm neither wired to like metal nor tempted to fake it. Just as I suspected, these Johnny-come-latelies-meet-the-new-boss-same-as-the-old-boss-es can no more do grunge than they could double-ledger bookkeeping. Grunge simply isn't their meter. So regardless of what riff neatniks think, this is just a metal album with the tempos slowed and the song lengths shortened, which is good because it concentrates their chops and improves their songwriting, and bad because it also means more singing, which they can't. This isn't even metal

90s Metallica is boring as shit. I'll take the 21st century stuff over it - St. Anger is an amusing trainwreck, while everything after at least occasionally autopilots their 80s ideas.

you have to admit King Nothing is a sick jam though

Bleeding Me and Hero of the Day are good as well.
A lot of good tracks on this album but it's kinda ruined by all the mediocre filler shit.

If you slow/pitch Load/Reload down they sound like Crowbar it's pretty cool.
