The Choir (not to be confused with the California alt-rock outfit of the same name) is perhaps best known for their 1967 single "It's Cold Outside" which was included on Rhino's four-disc Nuggets box. By the time of the Artifact sessions, the group had evolved from being a garage band into more of a psychedelic/baroque pop outfit with a sound comparable to the Zombies, the Left Banke, and the early Bee Gees. They also exhibit some nascent power-pop leanings, which makes sense as the Choir's drummer Jim Bonfanti went on to be a founding member of the Raspberries. The album's proceedings only stumble over a six-minute instrumental piece which doesn't showcase any of the band's strengths and a mildly kitschy closer. On the other hand, the first two tracks would have made for one of the finest pop singles of 1969. Perhaps not a truly great lost album of the 60's, but a very good one at least.8.1/10https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEeUgnzm9II
