Shredding pales in comparison to what im trying to do.

>if you’re impressing twelve year olds with your sweep picking or playing party rock for a crowd of mid functioning alcoholics they will think it sounds cool on anything
Okay but my opinion matters way fucking more than those people

One day you will stop the crab bucket coping. 99% of guitarists famous or not prefer to play on real shit because it sounds better to them when they play. The 1% are session guitarists producing soulless pop country and they wont admit it, but they have real amps at home. Whether or not some 85 IQ gym bro can tell once it hits his airpods is irrelevant. He is the least important person in the signal chain.

Get a pre-lawsuit aria pro ii LS/LC model

They’re well made with good stock pickups and have beefy headstock volutes. Only toanwood schizos could find any fault and the specs/model names are obscure (a lot of them dont even have serials) so they’ve been going up in value much slower than other japanese LPs. I got an ls-something with dimarzio pickups for $600.
>>
>>129853555
Tokai LCs are better than Gibson LPs no?
Better hardware and quality for the price point.
>>
>>129853663
Sounds good, I'm not interested in the brand name but what is genuinely the best quality for the price range. Mahogany is the standard, but I'm mainly interested in how good the hardware is rather than the other mythical stuff that goes into LPs especially.
Gibson can go fuck themselves kek.
>>
>>129853668
>Better hardware
no
>and quality
about 50% of the time
>>
>>129853668
idk a lot of people are saying they used basswood bodies. Gotoh is typically a good brand but I’ve never heard their pickups.
>>
>>129853691
So buying a Tokai LC from the lawsuit era isn't better than a LP Studio?
You're telling me that Gotoh PAFs are btfo'd by Gibson's poor man line?
>>
>>129853694
Gotoh PAFs are only beaten by Gibson 490R/498Ts but the cost of the guitars they sell definitely do not cover the value of the pickups imo.
>>
>>129853555
Gibsons were never meant to be about status. They used to be relatively cheap. It was about not wanting to play a slippery neon metallic flake devil horn guitar with a dildo headstock when there are guitars that still look like guitars and don’t slide around so much.
Also see: telecasters with strat headstocks

Then greedy boomers turned gibson into a lame pseudo-luxury nostalgia brand. Now most single cuts are swoopy gay shred clubs with dildo headstocks and they sue almost everyone that tries to bring tasteful guitars back. If gretsch stops doing majority sparkle guitars and actually uses good hardware for once, gibson is going to come for them next.
>>
>>129853701
LC will be about the same quality as a studio, depending on the day in the gibson factory and how bad the employee's hangover was
hardware and electronics in the gibson is only 5-10% better
kinda like a 90s lexus
65% of the price for 90% of the quality of a mercedes
>>
>>129853715
This. This is why I refuse to buy a Gibson and why I prefer any other proven quality brand over the horseshit they peddle. It took them over 50 years to catch up to MIJ Tokais ffs.
>>

I’ve had gibson studios and they usually come with high and pingy nuts, just ok pickups (as good as anything else made with real magnets and wire), mediocre fretwork, and the cheap aesthetic and tendency towards baby shit light brown fretboards feels like such a fuck you next to korean shit that offers double bound everything for $500 that when holding one, you instantly feel an urge to return it and buy a telecaster.

If they want to make it a working mans guitar they could at least add the volute back, default to locking tuners and use some saved finishing time to pay more attention to setup consistency

That doesn't surprise me at all honestly. I'm still going to pick up a MIJ and the response I get /here/ are only making me feel more confident about picking one up. Gibson gave up on making anything meaningful and/or affordable a long time ago.
>>
>>129853742
How is the hardware bad? Its the same zinc alloy gibson uses on $3000 standards, the pickups are made of real wire, magnets, and steel, a pot is a pot if the taper is correct, and a cap is a cap.

I have compared many jap gibsons to real gibsons and its really just the lower end edwards and shit that are worse because the bodies get light enough to neck dive and the finish is kind of cheap looking

Exactly, I don't get the mentality of the people that buy into that crap. It's clear to anyone that has picked up other guitars that the quality of their stuff has nosedived outside of the pickups and possibly locking tuners.
>>
>>129853715
that’s not the point I was trying to make. there are a dozen or more lp knockoffs on the market in varying price ranges. you buy a gibson for the logo on the headstock and you also buy a tokai for the logo on the headstock; it’s just the contrarian’s choice.
>>
>>129853869
That's the main reason I was asking about the Tokai originally, as I want something really high-end but not paying the over-inflated prices attached to a name. I'm not afraid to pay a bit more as long as it's genuinely worth it.
>>
>>129853796
Paying more for a guitar just so it’s set up better from the factory is a fool’s errand. You should really be doing your own setup work to include leveling frets and filing nut slots.

1. The wood, getting something that isn't made of scam shit is tricky if you don't get a verified source for it.
2. Hardware. Cheap shit is cheap and from China, I would never trust something like that as it will fuck up your audio at the heart.
3. I'm not a luthier, I do not have a workshop and I don't have the time to be fiddling with something when I have no confidence or clue in how to get a proper result. Basic setup is fine, but doing everything from scratch (i.e. a professional job) is fucked.

>>129853921
That's fine, I just want to pick up something that will sound good. I just want the best thing I can pick up, although the modern Love Rock headstocks are fugly.
>>
>>129853869
Not the logo. The headstock not looking like a dildo or the guitar not having an overall “i like metuhl” aesthetic with pointy swoopy shit all over.

There’s basically just gibson, gibson copies, and trying to find a gretsch that’s well put together enough to upgrade without being sparkly or attached to a bigsby.

Some of the gibson copies have a really nice feeling modern nitro finish and more tasteful than average figured tops, and store value so well that one day you will get bored and be able to sell it and buy three telecasters and an eq pedal so imo they’re the better choice if you can get one without paying meme money

>>129853883
More like if such a basic guitar is selling for so much it better be set up from the factory. The cheapest competent luthier in town charges $300 to redo the frets and nut.

I just use d'addario XS
they last 3+ months
pick tears up the coating on the lower end of the strings pretty fast, but that side doesn't corrode much unless I'm fingerpicking a lot (I don't do this much on my electrics)
>>
>>129854153
it’s been funny seeing the projection but I genuinely don’t care about yidson. there are duds and gems in every brand even custom shops. when you’ve been playing long enough you notice that even high end guitars have bum notes somewhere on the neck. it’s best to find a guitar with good bones in a model and color you like and do the complete setup yourself and change hardware to suit your own preferences. I do all my own work: auto repair, hvac, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, luthery—you eventually reach a point where you realize even the most well regarded professional are cutting corners, upselling you on things you don’t actually need, or just outright scamming you. I don’t really care what you take away from this or even care if you actually own a guitar but for your own sake you should be self sufficient in some capacity.
>>
>>129854186

Me too, unironically two of my most favorite guitars I’ve ever owned. They feel great and sound great. They’re definitely an acquired feel due to narrow fretboards and small frets but for me that’s something I love about them. The necks feel like an ever so slightly smaller vintage Fender spec but with a 10” radius instead of a 7.25”, basically vintage Fender spec but with a modern Fender radius.

Hey my names Hard Rock Joe. My singular hobby is guitar. I like to find deals on cheap guitars, then flip them for a profit and buy something else. My spouse at one point told me she didn't want to hear about guitars and to not talk about them around her. So, I stopped talking about them. Suddenly, I was branded a liar, sneak and thief for "stealing from the family." Also, for not telling her that I was selling or shipping a guitar out. She carries several subscriptions that she uses regularly, as well as has spent monthly money on regular lessons for her "hobby." Any who, sorry for ramblin' ravin' rock on dudes.

https://voca.ro/1lFxqrlN40tP
Unfortunately it sounds pretty weird if you're playing at low volume because you hear the dissonance of the strings ringing out against the pitch shifted signal. Also last time I tried using it it wouldn't turn on, or rather, I think it turned on but I couldn't get any signal to go through.
¯\(ツ)/¯
I haven't really messed with it since then.
