I fucking love Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. Everybody tells me these guys is the closest band in that style of the last 20 years or so. Where should I start with them? Any other recs in that regard?

No, they have nothing to do with them. Muh harmonies is irrelevant. And their best and only great album was their first
>>
>>129859409
they look greasy
>>
>>129859418
>one of them has a spacemen 3 shirt
so hey did have good music taste, but they kinda sucked at music

I would go with High Llamas if you want modern but inspired by Wilson. Not too familiar with Animal Collective and I hate them, but I heard no Wilson influence from them

Many such cases, Alex Turner is also patrician as fuck, but he couldn't write a good song to save his life and he is only the FOURTH best vocalist in the best song he is in.

Sonic Boom is Panda Bear's drug dealer now.

I also love Brian Wilson. The closest modern ones are Grizzly Bear and Sufjan Stevens imo. Veckatimest, Yellow House, Illiniose are all must listens.

Animal Collective is my favorite band but it's not as close. It's very hard to say where someone should start with them, since the main albums differ wildly from each other, and you bond with another with each new season. Right now might be Strawberry Jam or MPP season, which are their biggest anyways. But I'd say don't give up on them if you haven't at least heard Feels, MPP, SJ, ST, STGSTV and even Centipede Hz and Painting With.

I like them but they're too close.

MPP and Fall Be Kind

Brian D'Addario / Lemon Twigs have some Wilsonesque tunes, though most of it is Rundgrenesque or Beatlesque.

Have you ever heard The Olivia Tremor Control?
I find them closer to BB's sound far more than Animal Collective.
Check it out. You will probably like it:

Why though. Is it mainly the vocals that people are comparing? Like Panda Bear does melodic high type vocals like the Beach Boys?

Like if I listen to a song like "Brother Sport" I couldn't tell you any Beach Boys song that sounds like that

OP will take anything that resembles beach boys
>>
check the Beatles. I recommend:
Please Please Me
A Hard Day's Night
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts club Band

So wrong it hurts

>>129859409
But OP if you want some Beach Boys-esque stuff you should really just check out Panda Bear's solo stuff
>>
lmao at the idea of putting on Animal Collective hoping you're going to get something like the Beach Boys

This is the most Beach Boys influenced release desu, I Think I Can being the most obvious.

MPP, Person Pitch and Fall Be Kind. Skip the rest
>>
Which era of the Beach Boys? if you like Pet Sounds, check out Clube Da Esquina & Odyssey and Oracle. For early Beach Boys, check out classic Punk Rock and Psychobilly. Smiley Smile? check out Ram by McCartney.

Person Pitch only
