Can you get away with knowingly having 1 or 2 (out of ~9) songs on your album being subpar simply because you didn't really know what to do to make them into good songs as well? Will that be tantamount to having 'filler'?

Just release a shorter album
Or an EP if youre not skilled enough to write 28 minutes of good tunes

Only having 1 or 2 filler tracks is pretty good.
The question is are they really filler tracks in an album of bangers or are they bad tracks in an album of mediocrity?
Godawful songs should be buried.

i mean the point isn't always to make a banger sometimes you want to make a statement or something

Yeah I don't feel like those songs of mine make a statement. They just objectively sound uninspired and dull compared to the 'it' factor the others seems to have. Back to the drawing board I go

exclude the bad songs that don't contribute to your certain vision. Maybe make a compilation of bad songs if you have enough

someone might like them you never know. but you can always jazz it up or whatever, or if you really don't like them at all yeah just scrap them

Why not give up on those songs and work on making other songs that are better?

have you asked other people what they thought?

oftentimes musicians (and artists in general) are quite bad at being able to tell which of their songs is a banger and which one is boring and uninspired.

for all you know those filler songs might be the best on the album

This would be the worst outcome for me. Imagine having to sing stuff you hate just because it's beloved. Delusional to even think this could happen, but still.

I should really do this.
