I’m tired of pretending that tripod is a step down from Dirt and Jar of Flies. It’s right up there with them. Maybe even a bit better.
>>
>>129863998
Tripod = Jar > Dirt
Imho
>>
It's their heaviest album for sure
Not sure if it's on the same level but I definitely like it more than Facelift and reunion albums

i own this CD. It's a super cool neon yellow and purple jewel case. very pretty.
>>

This but reversed
>>
>>129863998
No, it's not. Layne barely sings in his higher register and you can hear that the band was in shambles.
>>
>>129864266
Layne himself was in shambles and his vocals weren’t as strong as on Dirt, but the rest of the band was better than ever. Jerry’s songwriting peaked on Tripod and Inez was a better bassist than Starr.
>>
Dirt is cohesive and almost every track is great, literally only 2 tracks I could live without, AiC is 50% mediocre and definitely not cohesive
>>
>>129864389
>but the rest of the band was better than ever
Sean Kinney was an alcoholic.
>Jerry’s songwriting peaked on Tripod
Said no one, ever.
>and Inez was a better bassist than Starr
Technically, sure.
>>
>>129863998
imo the fact that Layne's voice is noticeably weaker adds to the super heavy and oppressive atmosphere of Tripod but it's still not as good as Dirt
>>
>>129863998
Its my favorite
>>
>>129863998
Dirt > Facelift > tripod > jar > sap
>>
My favorite AIC song is Rotten Apple :)
>>
>>129867121
one of their very best
>>
>>129863998
That dog is probably dead now...
>>
>>129864554
>Sean Kinney was an alcoholic.
As was every great rock drummer. The only problem is he didn’t drink himself to death like Bonham and Moon, so he’ll never have the legacy. If he died around the same time as Layne and Jerry retired the name instead of slogging on with and over it, AIC’s reputation would be unimpeachable and they would be universally regarded as one of the GOATs
>>
>>129864124
I have the purple case one :)
>>
>>129867551
aren't we all?

literally said in the post that you were replying to.

and he's based. tripod is the bee's knees.
>>
>>129863998
My favorite AIC album, beautiful sound of it all crushing down.
>>
>>129863998
It's because the album cover has poor doggo it's not as acclaimed probably.
>>
>>129864554
>Sean Kinney was an alcoholic.
weren't they all former junkies pretty much? they each had their own personal hells, layne being the one unable to cope with it and eventually got the better of him. was sean's story that he eventually got clean from the bottle? i dont really know the background of it. did he go from a junkhead to an wino? i think i remember him talking about making efforts to pull layne out of his abyss, showing up to his address knocking on the door or doorbell to no avail and leaving letters in the mailbox. jerry also a former junkie and interestingly later ended up moving to los angeles which is like belly of the beast for junkies. then again it was decade or two after he got clean so its not that crazy i guess.

Alice weren't even close to the popularity of zeppelin and the who. Despite being the best band of their era and sold well, they took a backseat to nirvana, pearl jam, and by the time of tripod, soundgarden.
>>
>>129867551
miss this lil nigga like you wouldn't believe
>>
>>129867551
There’s only one 1990s dog left, born November 1999.
>>
>>129863998
Tripod is the purest, most raw form of Alice. It is the true feeling of a downward spiral Dirt wishes it was. If it had been reorganized to place Frogs as its climax it would probably have received greater recognition, what with Layne's pseudo manifesto at the end.
>>
>>129875120
If u seen White Dog you're based

Weren't they a glam metal band?
>>
>>129875290
Are you one of those schizoposters I hear so much about? Even if I had seen that before now, what would that demonstrate on my end?
>>
>>129875341
Buddy, you're in 4chan
>>
>>129875330
Their pre-Facelift demos were, when they went by the name Diamond Lie. There's also Layne's former band, Alice 'N Chains, which was glam too. From Facelift onward they were everywhere from heavy metal to sludge.

Oh hey, first time I've been called that. My initiation must be complete.
>>
>>129875362
>Alice 'N Chains

Yeah that's what I meant. Weren't they the same band?
>>
Is that something you read on reddit?
>>
>>129875414
Oh no, just Layne. He then joined Diamond Lie (Jerry, Sean, and Mike) and they reappropriated the Alice name.
>>
Jerry Cantrell has a horse cock

>>129875362
>>129875438
so they were always grunge poseurs, Cobain was right
>>
>>129875362
didnt pantera also start out glam? hell even ministry started in a similar fashion.
>>
>>129875525
They never called themselves grunge, though. People stupidly lump all 90's Seattle bands under that label. The only labels they've used are "rock" and "metal", and have even critiqued calling them "grunge". I'll try to find the video and link it.
>>
>>129875589
I think it's in here somewhere, but I can't find the timestamp if so. I know it's a Jerry quote that goes something like, "they try to pin that grunge thing on us, but that's not us".

FIFY
>>
>>129875771
regardless of what they say, they are one of the seminal bands who carved out the grunge sound, they were more metal than the rest but even soundgarden 80s stuff was similar.
>>
>>129875589
>and have even critiqued calling them "grunge".
mark arm from mudhoney, who inadvertently coined the term grunge, was also very critical of that as well

Downloaded this to my Jellyfin server because of this thread just now. I never listened to the studio version of Sludge Factory and damn are the "ah-ah-ah"s jarring compared to the Unplugged version.

First time I discovered Alice in Chains was 20 years ago because of the Clerks soundtrack. Damn time flies.

Nobody called themselves grunge back then. No artist want to be pinned down to a genre. All of them have been in documentaries about grunge and spoke about it so they definitely belong in grunge.
