Do you think there could ever be a blues revival?
Obviously the blues has always had fans, but I mean mainstream music. Blues rock in the Billboard hot 100, tiktok girls dancing to blues songs, skinny teenagers forming blues groups…
I went to some restaurant that had a live blues band. They were really cool and pretty young, but it was all geriatric oldies dancing to the music. I thought it was pretty sad. I’m not a hardcore blues obsessive, but it’s pretty good music and the genre deserves better than that

The White Stripes were into blues heavily. In fact Jack White is on SNL this weekend

That’s white, this post is about blue. You’re getting your colors mixed up

closest i could imagine easily is some sort of motown/stax or soul type thing happening, few tracks like that have become semi viral on tiktok (i think, from the little i've seen of tiktok), and lo-fi shit is generally acceptable to kids. Blues though idk, so much of it relies on good tasteful musicianship and that is something that doesn't seem to matter too much these days, on traditional instruments anyways.
Maybe if some female pop singer can make it half of her schtick it could happen, but I wouldn't imagine it'd move past the the vocalist being the focus
That's just kinda how it goes though, I love jazz but a lot of contemporary jazz scenes in the US are just berklee whites or noise/experimental guys dabbling in 'free jazz'. Of course new orleans still has real jazz going down, and ny/chicago have some, but you know what i mean. Not much a revival

answers your question.
WS was pretty blatantly blues-inspired.
You just need somebody that young people can identify with (i.e., somebody with a youth vibe like WS) and of course it can become popular like happened in the 60s.
I mean swing-inspired music actually was hip for a year or two back in the 90s. youtube.com/watch?v=yS2IBMQIjDo

>an entire genre and subculture of music is built upon the chromatic semitone between dorian and phrygian

its called the black keys.

No.

No genre EVER made a comeback, only was built upon. Jazz, Blues, Swing, Punk, Rock....all dead.
