How do you guys feel about Bloc Party? And how would you rate Matt Tong as a drummer?
>>129875634Silent Alarm is pure kino. Everything else sucks ass
First two albums were great, everything else was shit. Many such cases. Always seemed weird that they fucked up so bad trying to go electronic when it was such a common style at the time and so many British bands had done it in the past. Seemed like an uninspired band in general.
>>129875634How big were they in thier peak
>>129875634i never knew the singer was a black guy
>>129875666Hunting For Witches I Still Remember Signs remixed by Armand van HeldenAre good too
i have very few 10/10s but silent alarm is one of them>>129875781not big at all. silent alarm was well respected amongst hipsters and critics (rightfully so) but they never had mainstream hits like arctic monkeys or franz ferdinand
>>129876542That entire mid-2000s post-punk revival scene was one big wave. Maybe it's because I was like 14-16, but I don't recall that scene even being about 'albums' initially. It was more about singles, a music video, interviewa, and being the next band to do "the thing". Bloc Party were pretty well intertwined with the whole movement. I don't even think it's possible to talk about that specific era without mentioning "Banquet".
I think they're the child molestation of music.
>>129875634first album good. rest is boring. many such cases
>>129877434Just because that's what was playing while you were getting your bussy wrecked doesn't make it a universal experience for everyone
>>129875634the rhythm section was the only good thing about them
>>129875634that guy there needs to be removed. I hate him.looking at chu all like:3(l)
>>129876060Me neither i used to like the music now i dont. ruined.
The few songs I happened on were great but I never felt like digging deeper. Can't believe people would stop enjoying them after finding out there's a black band member lmao. Probably why you didn't know in the first place
>>129876542>>129876672i dont get it, if they were big in the movement, technically had a hit album/singles, why didnt they pop off like monkeys or ferdinand, is it beause too many ethnics in the band lol because from the interiews they seems pretty damn english, where as today this group would be seen as dei
>>129880933>Can't believe people would stop enjoying them after finding out there's a black band memberdid this actually happen lmao
>>129881661Because they made shitty synth stuff
>>129876060he's also a homosexual
>>129881672>Because they made shitty synth stuffwere talking about just silent alarm
>WE SIT AND WE SIGH>AND NOTHING GETS DONE>SO RIGHT, SO CLUED UP>WE JUST GET OLD>AND ALL THE WHILE,>BEEN TORN ASUNDER>NICOTINE>BACTERIA
>>129876060Back in the day wasn't important that kind of things unlike today
>>129884207Banquet has 400m on Spotify
>>129875634they stopped being a band over 20 years ago
They should have renamed the band after Gordon and Matt left. I don't consider Bloc Party after that to be the same band.>>129881661Second album syndrome fucked them hard because the shift was too significant. If you compare the reception of A Weekend In The City to Favourite Worst Nightmare or You Could Have It So Much Better, it was far worse than either of those albums.
>>129890248and yet, I still Remember from the 2nd album is their best
>>129890255There are better songs on that album alone. Song For Clay and Hunting For Witches for starters. I rediscovered those two recently and forgot how good they were.
>>129890248Almost every band of that era had a solid debut and disappointing second albumMaybe except for Foals
>>129875634fooken students
>>129881667No back then most people weren't totally poisioned by this weird American race obsession
>>129880933>>129881667He is also gay
