I mean I've been looking at his songs and most of the hits are pretty standard 3 chord r and b like every other 50s rock and roller was doing.A few (like 'Everyday') have some unexpected chords, but those songs are kinda rare in his popular repertoire. The only thing I think that really sounds noticeably different than, say, Chuck Berry, or Little Richard, or Carl Perkins, or Elvis, or Jerry Lee is a more chimey production quality that became popular with the Byrds and mid-period Beatles. Is that what most think makes him sound more 60's-like?

he had more a more composed, melodic vocal style than any of the guys you mentioned. Love the killer belting out a tune, but his vocal style is very improvisational.
