I'm nonsensically insecure about my music taste. I guard my taste in music like a deeply closeted gay man with severe internalised homophobia hides that he wants to fuck men. Like if I even happen see artists I like get mentioned somewhere I will get uncomfortable and embarassed. I don't tell anyone what I am into, if I do then I will only mention the most well known artists but I cringe heavily about doing that too. It also took me until I was at least 18 years old for me to start listening to any kind of music actively because I was afraid to have any kind of music taste, can't have cringe taste if I have no taste.

Does anyone have similar experiences or know how to deal with this? I just want to enjoy music but this neurotic overthinking and insecurity is getting in the way

>Does anyone have similar experiences
When I was young I was one of those anime/videogame ost only listeners, but I was super embarrassed about it. Whenever I got asked about music I would default to the same three popular bands and wouldn't elaborate.
So just make something up or be super vague when asked about music, it's not hard.

Alternatively, grow up and stop giving a fuck what people think. No matter how "elite" your music taste is, someone out there will always think you have shit taste. If the thought of that paralyzes you, then you've got serious confidence issues

Guarantee you no one gives a shit and this place isn't where anyone should be seeking advice unless it's on how to be more retarded

Most people have terrible music taste
