Iheart is pushing their app pretty hard on their stations because the grown is going to be in digital media, obviously. It also allows for better targeted advertising and much more direct measurement of streaming numbers. Also, it causes the industry to move away from Nielsen, the guys who provide the ratings services and behave like a monopoly. Cumulus, another major radio conglomerate, is actually suing Nielsen, alleging monopolistic practices and inaccurate reporting. Cumulus is currently dealing with bankruptcy, though.That’s a lot of words just to say: let the terrestrial commercial stations die. College stations and the non commercial stations are the only thing worth listening to on FM.
