Lennon and McCartney were the best songwriting duo in popular music in three important ways. 1, they could keep doing it and never ran out of ideas. 2, versatility, like Anon said they could jump from genre to genre or style and blend influences between albums, even on the same album, while maintaining quality and 3, they had two different musical characters which meshed really well together, Pauls ear for melody and harmony and Johns ear for a bit of edge and grit. they both complemented each other and, usually, balanced out each others excesses

They go from club players to boy band to mature band to solo projects. They simply put in the work and develop new styling every so often. Exceedingly few bands and solo artists bother with all that and it shows. There is simply nobody quite like them. Not even close. You also have three major talents in one group, McCartney, Lennon and Harrison.
