Is Black Metal just a symptom of mental illness? I listened to almost nothing apart from black metal until I was diagnosed with depression and put on antidepressants. Now I find most of it unlistenable and the loudest I listen to these days is doom bands like Belzebong and the like.

So, is everyone into black metal actually just mentally unwell or depressed?

>suddenly you hate what you used to like
The answer's right there, and you're posting bait threads on /mu/ instead of thinking.

Yes. Most of those dudes who are in the ((((Scene)))) are fucking retard and totally depressed
I had been reading about this subject unironically.
>Fenriz on how the nature helps with his depression:
>"There is something about how the brain reacts to drunkenness. Just lying there, staring at the white wall. You go crazy! You feel the anxiety grow with every second, and it gets worse and worse with age. It's like being in the hospital - the white walls actually only make you worse! In the end, I decided to get out of the house and into the woods. The brain loves to have all this information thrown at it - trees, mountains, waterfalls, water, birds. And when I get home, completely exhausted, I can almost hear my brain say 'thank you for taking me on a trip. Now we must rest'. Then you feel good."

>Dead was cutting himself with the Cola bottle at the end of the show. Was this the 1st time there was self mutilation in the scene? I mean, was this unheard of at the time?
>“Yes it probably was. It made a huge impact on me because the cutting was MUSIC RELATED. Later, I had several parts of black metal songs that I used to cut myself to, called “the cutting parts” of the songs. Later in the 90s this self harm came up as something connected to the depression (in movies and articles). I didn’t relate to that and since it wasn’t music related, my own scars just stood as a sign of depression. Ok, I actually got depression years later (1998-2002), but I sure as shit wasn’t self harming because of it, and to this day it’s hard for me to see cutting as a way to deal with depression and angst”- Fenriz

Fenriz is the realest motherfukkker in the history of metal, and so's his band. No two ways about it.

No, you're just a faggot. I'm not depressed and I really like and enjoy (some) black metal.

Black Metal's a pretty diverse genre. Now my favorite metal bands are blackened doom metal like Mizmor, Forgotten Tomb, and Mourning Dawn, and I've been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and am on Lexapro. I find those bands cathartic, and they help me process feelings. However, as a teenager I liked bands like Rotting Christ, Mayhem, Venom, and Bathory because they sounded cool. There are black metal bands that are just good for rocking out like Carpathian Forest and Hellripper. There are bands for people who like aggression and brutality like Antichrist Siege Machine, Archgoat, and Blasphemy. There are bands for people who like pretty indie shoegaze like Alcest. There are bands who like doing the goofy gothy vampire thing like Emperor and Cradle of Filth. Black Metal has so many different niches that I don't think you can really put everything in one basket.

>Metal is a symptom of mental illness
black metal is a symptom of edgy teen age rebelliousness so yes kinda
All metal is manchildish by nature, its not bad but its for kids that want to feel virile and edgy

pleb

it is for manchildren though

Pretty much this. Also applies to other unlistenable shit like noise and power electronics.
>>

You got it wrong, its high test music. You started doing something effeminate such as taking medicine for “depression” which turned you into a low test bitch. Enjoy your limp dick and maybe try metalcore and sludge metal, that should be more up your alley.
