How much of singing high notes is practice/skill and how much is purely physiological/innate talent?
>>129914637If you're a natural baritone (or even deeper), hitting high notes is pretty much off the table, unless you're a freak (like young Elvis).
>>129914660I have a naturally deep voice but I can hit pretty high notes. The problem js they sound very nasal and unpleasant. Wish I could get a better tone.
>>129914637It's like 95% technique.
>>129914660https://youtu.be/N7XH-58eB8cMost classical countertenors are baritones.
>>129914678Any ideas what I can do to get my high notes to be less thin/nasal/biting?
>>129914669You need to train your falsetto to have a fuller sound. Keep singing in it, never push, and research technique.
>>129914694Are you saying that training falsetto will carry over to my chest voice? Because I'm referring to high notes in a chest/mixed register.
>>129914689I struggle with the same thing. You need to give your falsetto better breath support and resonance. Much easier said than done, but it's very much possible.
There are definite physical features that control the range of yourvoice. But you can train yourself to hit some surprisingly high notes. I'd suggest you take a look at this guy's material if that is something you want to do:https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCXncrpgDAX620BkKFc5ZJ5g
>>129914705Where does your chest voice end? >Because I'm referring to high notes in a chest/mixed register.Don't try to push your chest voice too high. That's what Freddie Mercury did and it destroyed his voice. Instead switch to head voice. If you train well enough you can make it a gradient instead of an on/off switch.>mixed voiceNo such thing. You're always either in chest or head voice. "Mixed voice" means smoothing the transition, so that the low head voice and high chest voice sound similar.
>>129914694Falsetto is the easy part, I think. It's projecting a normal high voice (as a usually low singer) that is a little freakish. Not everyone can do it. Maybe Bowie a bit, but Bowie would stay in modes (he had his Ziggy voice, then his crooner voice..but he kept them in seperate songs. He wasn't dramatic like this).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CmDVkLE39A
>>129914744We need to clarify our terms. What do you mean by "normal high voice" and falsetto?
>>129914754Falsetto is like Beegees. I'm just talking about hitting tenor range as a baritone. I think Elvis had almost a 4 octave range. That's just natural freakishness.
>>129914772>Falsetto is like BeegeesOkay well I mean any head voice by falsetto. Meaning the M2 register. You will need to use that to hit high notes as a baritone, tenor, whatever.>tenor rangeIt depends what you mean by "tenor range". Any baritone can sing anything in tenor range. Maybe not in an opera because the voice thins out towards the top, but in popular music yes. >Elvis had almost a 4 octave range>that's just natural freakishnessWe all have the same singing physiology. The only difference is in timbre and the placement of the passaggio. But the majority of men have a passaggio in the range of a few notes from each other.
>>129914816>We all have the same singing physiology.I would think 99.9% of men do. Others just seem like mutants. I mean, Elvis could probably get away with recording both of the Righteous Brothers parts..or get close. It would just be the "Righteous Brother".
>>129914868I'm sorry but Elvis was no different. Watch Dimash sing and you'll understand what I mean.
>>129914722>No such thing.ok but no one who actually talks about this stuff seriously agrees with you...
>falsettoThat's cheating. Anyone can sing pretty much anything in falsetto. The real test is your chest voice.
>>129914908Then explain to me where the "M1.5" register is. Have you ever sang neither in chest nor head voice? Mess around enough and you'll realize that vocal registers are an on/off switch. "Mixed voice" is a confusing abstraction that only hurts communication.
>>129914882I figured that he's a mutant too. Else there'd be more Dimashes.
>>129914925Vocal nodules in 3... 2... 1...
>>129914942if it was just an on/off switch, you wouldnt be able to avoid voice breaks.
>>129914944No he's not, he's just good as a baritone and a countertenor. https://youtu.be/yF4YXv6ZIuEThis is all falsetto.
>>129914637Depends on what you mean by "singing high notes". Most people can sing them after a bit of training. Now whether they'll actually sound good hitting them, or do it in a way that doesn't fuck up their voice is another question.
>>129914962>This is all falsetto.yeah, fucking obviously.
>>129914961You avoid voice breaks by better supporting chest voice, or by switching to head voice. You've probably only ever read about singing and never actually tried this stuff out for yourself because if you did you'd understand exactly what I'm saying.
>>129914977It's impossible for a male to sing that high without falsetto. Unless you're a castrato I guess.
>>129914998>It's impossible for a male to sing that high without falsettoand? what point are you trying to prove?
>>129914637Singing is mostly an innate talent.
>>129915066What point are you trying to prove? You know Dimash and Elvis use falsetto too right?
>>129915089Imagine thinking this. Give me one (1) great singer who was just "naturally great".
>>129915097This doesn't sound like any falsetto to me. Or maybe at the tip top high end to reach over the edge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIyNJHwfmak
>>129915140Yeah that's because he doesn't sing past like F#4 lol
>>129915172If you can do it yourself, hats off to you.I'm a natural baritone myself, but I kind of stay in my safe Johnny Cash range. Elvis would jump from the croon to a kind of pubescent teen boy high. It doesn't sound like the usual falsetto affectation.. which is almost pseudo female like.
>>129915198I can sing an F#4 in chest voice yes lol. If you're a baritone you should be able to, although it might not be a good idea to do so often.
>>129915203post vocaroo
>>129915503No I'm a shit singer I won't even pretend to not be. I'm a decent drummer lol
>>129915577you just said you could do it though
>>129915622Yeah well I can only do it loudly and I'm at home with my parents lol. I could give you an F#4 in falsetto if you want?
>>129915635lol
>>129914637>longsleeve under t shirt>beanie>shorts???wtf is wrong with white people?
you’re born with it. imagine trying to hit these falsetto notes live. https://youtu.be/0lZsEqWV_Yghttps://youtu.be/d7TQP0SVpLkhttps://youtu.be/cQew6g3JrhY
>>129915985Just train your falsetto and you canI don't know why that's so hard for people to understand
>>129915985see >>129914925
>>129916162You know chest voice has a limit as to how high it can go right?
>>129916176yes it's much more difficult (and impressive) to sing high in a full chest sound. falsetto is singing on easy mode.
>>129916249I disagree. I think the most impressive thing is to make your transition to falsetto seamless, not to just bring chest voice higher and higher and kill your voice.
>>129916281>make your transition to falsetto seamlessit's not though. it's extremely to twll when someone is using falsetto. not seemless at all.>kill your voicelrn 2 sing lmao
>>129916367>it's extremely to tell when someone is using falsettoNot as easy as you might think. >lrn 2 sing lmaoThere's no way to carry chest voice past a certain point, depending on your individual passaggio. If you're a baritone you absolutely can not ever sing in the fifth octave in chest voice.
>>129916392i can sing a C6 in full chest voice.can't prove it right now cause my family is home :((((
>>129916779Singing an F#4 in chest voice is not an impressive achievement lol
This thread is proof that mu is full of idiots. Any chance you faggots are kpop posters, too?Singing is a learnable skill.
>>129916857i know, you suck at singing. i can sing a c6 though, which is very impressive.
>>129914637Nick Mullen?
>>129917076No male has ever sung a C6 in chest voice lmaoThat just doesn't happen
>>129917415i have.
>>129915108Greatness is only possible with innate talent, practice is still required.
