hip hop died because of the drake and kendrick beef, it was always kind of stupid to put all your eggs in the drake basket, without him hip hop is pretty much dying or dead

im sort of glad hip hop is dead, i wished it to die the entier 2010s, was hoping rock would make a come back, but this is a real monkeys paw moment because rock didnt make a comeback, what replaced hip hop, really shitty pop music like beson boon, sabrina carpenter, really shitty pop country music like morgan wallen

soundcloud rap was the grunge of rap, rap is now where rock was in the 2000s, dying, not exactly dead, sort of a zombie, i expect its true death to be the 2030s, but i have no idea what replaces it. EDM?
>>
>>129923071
No it’s not. Music is just going the way of radio serials and operas. People don’t really care anymore. Visual entertainment is what the kids crave. They don’t have the attention span to simply listen to music.
>>
>>129923082
no just rap
>>
>>129923091
define "dead"
a genre being less popular than when it peaked is not, "dead"
>>
>>129923196
what i say is that it is dying, not fully dead yet, dead is like rock or jazz, i was huge into rock then the powers that be decided to stop looking for new rock bands, and told you just listen to older stuff, also when there is no longer any innovation and it stagnates artistically, finally when it stops making money

just prepare for the day you are old and they tell you things like "you just got to search harder" and the mainstream no longer acknowledges your existence, and young people consider your music lame, and the underground no longer exists and your whole love of music just dies too

when are we going to see a new genre invented
>>
>>129923390
to tell you the truth i think its over, i think pop music itself will hit the wall. and when the very concept of popular music dies the only music left will be classical and folk and maybe club djs
>>
>>129923390
when a new innovative instrument is invented. (Never)

unironically a jazz revival
and I mean real jazz not that faggy adam neely/jacob collier shit
the first person to incorporate jazz with rap or pop will be a genuine superstar
it's a damn shame american society threw away it's most beautiful cultural invention
>>
>>129923251
>the powers that be decided to stop looking for new rock bands, and told you just listen to older stuff
All you had to say was "good rock music became too niche for the big labels to market properly, and marketable rock music became lame and boring" but instead to had to take the conspiracy-brained schizobabble route.

this
big cultural music moments exist at the intersection of capitalism and good music

lol, you dont know shit about music, hip hop was sampling jazz in the 90s you dip

this is your reality
>>
>>129923526
sampling a few seconds is one thing im moreso imagining a fully fleshed out jazz composition
>>
>>129923536
yeah. some good stuff came out with dubstep but when mainstream acts took hold of it it you just got retarded stuff for the most part. Only that Skream/La Roux song was a decent mainstream crossover, grim stuff.

I guess you could add whatever scene Hudmo Fly Lo Thundercat Rustie etc were as the last good kind of wave of music but there was never a cohesive name for it.

>>129923429
Nobody cares about classical/folk shit, I agree with >>129923160 music as the important, innovative art form it was in the 1960s - 2000s is over, let AI take it over. In fact, musicians should go back to being seen as they were in the pre-ww2 world; bohemians bums, and shamed into getting a real job. By the late 2030s, music as we know, will start to become obsolete. AI will have taken it over by then, most art will be, by the 2050s AI will surpass humans at everything, become a cyborg, or become obsolete and die.

>people don't care about music anymore
reels type apps (the dominant form of entertainment that replaced television) is completely driven by music. tiktok is a music app.
people are still mass consuming music it's just more subtle
wtf are you saying

If there are no new superstars then the mainstream audience stops following Hip Hop. It's also because after a period of time people get bored of a style of music and want to listen to something different.

They listen to 1 song, not an album, result ? singles/eps becoming the dominant form of release, goodbye to albums, helping create a culture of "disposable music" for quick consumption, this is becoming increasingly common : https://youtube.com/shorts/GZiHlYZdZLA?si=JhG3GkB2-KLgKacY

«Realness» is what killed rap.
The disease started with the NWA and especially with the post-NWA beefing. Now the NWA are good but this is when actual music in hip hop started getting overshadowed by weird ghetto voyeurism and WWE tier soap opera shit.
At every pivotal moment in hip hop history it is «realness» at the root of all evil.
What killed Tupac? Gangster LARPing
Why did Eminem fall off? Because he stopped playing a character and started drinking his own kool aid
What wiped out a generation of up and comers? Actual drug addiction and criminality.
Today you can see realness personified in the likes of Kodak Black and Pooh Shiesty, their music sucks, but the criminality is real. So the soap opera writes itself.
The logical conclusion of this dialectic is drill, the music is besides the point, it’s about drama.

>was hoping rock would make a come back
It was never going to for the same reason why jazz and standards didn't make a big comeback when rock fell off. When the "default" genre changes, it's because people get tired of the existing one and want novelty, which they're not going to find by rolling back to the previous "default" genre. Rock also spent so long at the top that it ran out of new ideas to present.

>hip hop died because of the drake and kendrick beef
the only thing I remember from that was drake using ai to make tupac and biggie diss kendrick
that was fucking funny
but it kind of goes to your point -- because I remember thinkning, Well, Drake did that, now no one can ever do it again with any impact ...Ai as a creative force died there
rap beefs also died there because of kendrick going unhinged (the unfounded ped allegations and an aerial pic of Drake's Toronto mansion with targets)

it wasn't a beef anymore, it was using the media in an extreme way
with the help of the media

it was corporate

and the NFL allowing kendrick to use the super bowl as a platform to further that killed rap and the nfl for me

>unironically a jazz revival
the Oscar Peterson / Julie London / Frank SInatra kind?
yeah I could see that. Michael Buble and all that.

but bebop and shit? never was widely popular and won't be now
>>
>>129923479
>unironically a jazz revival

I don't think Jazz can become the most popular genre of music, it is too slow and relaxed. Most people want music to dance and get fun, not to chill out.

all the new rappers sound like gay 15 year olds it's impossible to suspend your disbelief at this point. the fact that black people put up with this shit for a decade plus is a testament to racial solidarity. the fact that white millennials still won't fucking let it go is a testament to self-loathing and whoever brainwashed them

Drake had to go through the humiliation because he broke the tiny hat club omerta and started supporting Palestine on social media. He had to be punished
>>
>>129925165
Jazz at its mainstream peak was for dancing, rather energetic and sexy (for the time) dancing even.
Cool jazz was for later when people were tired and going home
Stuff like bebop was never really mainstream, it was like the Megadeth of its day. It was big but it was for music autists, not for the club
>>
>>129925699
Ironically those rappers that sound like gay 15 year olds are actually way more likely to be real criminals and drug addicts than the older generations of gangster rappers that were just LARPing
>>
Billboard meaningless now

not rap song

so who's popular now?
