I thought guitar solos weren't cool anymore in the alternative circles?
Pearl Jam wasn’t fully “in” the circle. Most of the TRVE Pacific Northwest bands didn’t like Pearl Jam cause they were too tryhard.
>>129924509>tryhard"careerist" was the word used, and it isn't the same as "tryhard"
that's a blues rock band
>>129924495Always some metalcore doofus is around and is like ‘listen to converge’
>>129924495Kurt cobain called them posers and not alternative. Eddie vedder cried and had to talk to kirt because he didnt like how he was negative about Pearl jam
>>129924495>I thought guitar solos weren't cool anymore in the alternative circles? No, where did you get that impression?Ten is covered in solos, Dirt is covered in solos, even Smells Like Teen Spirit has a guitar solo (it's just the vocal melody played on guitar because Kurt couldn't solo for shit.)
>>129924495Pearl Jam is one of the worst bands of all time
>>129926046came here to post this>>129926145wrong
>>129924495>>129926145pearl jams first album is the best album in history. the rest of their catalog can be ignored. except a few songs here and there. maybe their 2nd album is worth listening to
>>129924495not alternative. tryhard bands with solos that are still alternative include aic, soundgarden, radiohead and pumpkins
>>129926046>No, where did you get that impression?Billy Corgan said so. He said he got shit on because alternative music wasn't supposed to have solos.
>>129924495nirvana has guitar solos
>>129926722I wouldn't call them solos. More like instrumental bridges with simple guitar licks.
>>129926735https://youtu.be/PbgKEjNBHqM?si=wIaQZdkCqTpts-oy
>>129925971pearl jam, nirvana, and alice in chains were the first wave of butt rock... kurt cobain was a childish loser, i don't understand why people who are old enough to know better still take him seriously... he wrote a few decent songs, thats it
>>129926767>he wrote a few decent songs, thats itmore than you've ever done then.
>>129926791for sure, but the guy wasn't some sort of oracle... he was just some guy in his 20's with very limited life experience, he was mentally ill, on drugs most of the time, and i don't get why grown adults still take someone like that so seriously... also he topped himself immediately after becoming a father... he was no hero, just a guy who wrote some okay songs
>>129926861thats what truly gifted people are like
>>129926712And he is right since he spoke about performative indie bands such as Sonic Youth and riot grrrl who secretly despised Grunge and what the Pumpkins were doing
>>129926920riot grrrl includes Unwound btw
>>129926165Best in history is too much but it's really good and nothing they did after matters. t. slow danced with the prettiest girl in the class to black during high school dance and she didn't let go through the next song stairway to heaven
>>129924509Wtf are you talking about retard? Take a look at who Pearl jam toured with. Pearl jam was just a continuation of Mother Love Bone in sound, who was a continuation of Green River, half of which became Mudhoney and Mudhoney and Pearl Jam were very good friends. Why the fuck do you think Pearl Jam have a song called Lukin? Why do you think Layne Staley and Barret Martin played with Mike McCready in Mad Season?Again, fucking retard.>>129926046This. Soundgarden had a bunch of solos too.>>129926920>and riot grrrl who secretly despised GrungeRiot grrrl bands call themselves grunge you moron.>>129925971Even though he never wanted to show it, Kurt Cobain was extremely competitive. And when Pearl Jam started to outsell Nirvana he immediately started to make throwaway comments about their music.
anti-guitar solos was mostly in the 2000s
Already in the 80s bands like Dinosaur Jr were putting guitar solos in their songs
Grunge and Alternative still have guitar solos,it's just they are around 20-30 seconds, and not like 2-3 minutes full of guitar wankery, tapping, shredding and other clown shit like in the 70s and 80s of classic rock and hair metal.
>>129924495Why does nobody ever mention this is the most faggy album cover of all time?
>>129932333It looks like a corporate hi5"we did it team, we beat the Q1 revenue forecast"
>>129924495Solos are based
>>129926712billy is a dork who would have been made fun of for doing anything
>>129932333>>129932354Fuck off, gay retards.
>>129927042Yeah but Vedder was not from Seattle, he came from San Diego in 1990. He was an implant.Cobain made those comments because they were partly true. Those guys who formed Pearl Jam came from bands that did glam before. Alice had a similar background. So he felt that they were bandwaggon jumpers, but he was only partly right. Alice adopted that moody Seattle sound back in 1990 with their first EP.So actually Alice in Chains was the first Seattle band to break through and establish that Seattle sound as the new thing. Even their first video was a total trailblazer copied a lot in the alt-rock scenes later.
>>129932448Badmotorfinger is so fucking good
>>129932635Man in the Box could be a Guns n Roses song. They were always poseurs.
>>129932635A little known or even completely unrecognised fact is that Nirvana took inspiration for the Nevermind cover from Alice In Chain's first EP, We Die Young. PicrelThe wavy band name, the whole scene happening in a pool... Quite obviousExcept Cobain took an older idea he had from one of his own paintings with a baby surrounded by darkness and hostile twigs beyond which a dollar bill was laid and transposed it into a pool with the wavy album name.
>>129932854Nah it was too metal for GNR which was much bluesier and closer to glam.By the time they did We Die Young the EP they had already put their glam phase behind and sounded more like a modernised Sabbath
>>129932635>So actually Alice in Chains was the first Seattle band to break through and establish that Seattle sound as the new thingNo 'twas Soundgarden with Louder Than Love
>>129932874Man in the Box is extremely bluesy.
>>129932908Yeah but Soundgarden didn't become so visible on MTV like Alice. That really put a foot in the door for grunge, it put a face on the new thing arising from that scene.
>>129932959>new thingThey were just sepia-toned hair metal.
>>129932956No, it's not. It uses that raised suspended note which was part of the Seattle sound. The same thing you hear in Nirvana's School. He called it the most Seattle riff everGNR was still to flashy baroque with complicated solos and bullshit leather pants and macho posturing.Notice that Alice dropped that shit by the time they hit 1990 and adopted the doomy mojo
>>129932983>that raised suspended noteyou're an absolute fucking brainlet.
>>129932995I dunno how the fuck it's called, haven't played guitar for like more than 10 years and I've no idea how it's called in English so fuck off
>>129933000tard
>>129933012faggot
Vs is the superior record though a few of 10s best songs are really great. Then No Code is my favorite personally
>>129932874>By the time they did We Die Young the EP they had already put their glam phase behind and sounded more like a modernised Sabbath>>129932983>Notice that Alice dropped that shit by the time they hit 1990 and adopted the doomy mojoWrong. Almost all of the second half of Facelift can be confused for hair/glam metalhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucp1yNPDu-Yhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDVWRMHLisg
>>129933083>Then No Code is my favorite personallybased. unfairly overlooked album. I also like Vitalogy
>>129932568kek it looks worse than i thought
>>129924495Aged like fine milk
When Eddie Vedder was living in San Diego he watched Stone Temple Pilots perform and he copied Scott Weiland
>>129932448>>129932807It really is. My favorite album from that era.>>129936074The lore keeps going deeper!
>>129932959Soundgarden was all over mtv with their music video because cornell was always shirtless
I like guitar solos
