25 years since Chuck's death and there's still no death metal as good as Death.
>>129928365why did he call his death metal band "death"not very original
>>129928365>there's still no death metal as good as Death.Maybe if you're a homoFor the rest of us there's way better death metal than Death
>>129928455Like...?
>>129928458I'm not allowed to tell homos

>>129928365What is Defeated Sanity then?
>>129928365Blood Incantation exists
>I CELEBRATE>A FAGGOT'S DEATH>HUMAN DISGRACE
oh dude the greatest to ever do it was a nepo jew how does this keep happening
>>129929461if there's a genre of metal they should excel at it's the driest most autistic one
LIES!
>>129928365You can really go into basically any album of Death and it's banger after banger. What's weird too, it a lot of it is kind of easy to play outside the solos.
>>129928997They do exist. That is true.
>>129930149Vast majority of Death Metal isn't difficult to play (on guitar/bass at least) outside of stuff like Breeding the Spawn or Millennium
>>129930149they're only so popular because they made the sound and the ethos so accessible
>>129930414Nigga they were like the first death metal band
>>129929461He was as goyish as he was Jewish.
>>129930398Drums weren't that hard either but at some point death metal turned into a competition on who can play the fastest blast beats.
>>129930607Death's drums are a lot more rhythmically intricate than most modern death metal though. I'm learning Crystal Mountain and while none of it is that technically demanding (I guess)compared to spamming blastbeats there's a lot of cool stuff. Like the part where he's playing quick sixteenths (or 32nds or whatever) on the hihat and ride and the kick is switching between 32nd notes and triplets, that's a rhythmic idea that'll go totally unnoticed if you're just spamming double kick the whole time.
>>129929414And /metal/ keeps calling him "gay" for some reason.
>>129930697Dying of AIDS may have something to do with that
>>129930700he had a brain tumor retard
>>129930700Even if he had AIDS that was well after Magic Johnson.
>>129930718This

>>129928365I'll answer seriously because why not>early era (SBG - SH)Obviously very influential for being the beginning of of the genre, but other bands like Autopsy, Obituary and Disincarnate improved on that classic OSDM sound>mid era (Human - ITP)Heavily inspired by the already more advanced, technical/progressive bands like Atheist and Cynic. Chuck literally had to borrow the members from Cynic to make Human>later era (Symbolic - TSOP)These are their most circlejerked albums and for a simple reason: they're not death metal Chuck said this himself, he didn't even want Symbolic advertised as death metal and TSOP was meant to be a Control Denied album, but obviously the label advertised them as that anyway. Now all these years later and listeners (tourists) still consider these to be the 'greatest DM ever' when Chuck was trying to distance himself from the genre entirely (look at how the band logo changed), writing progressive metal instead. (Most metalheads are retarded sheep when it comes to subgenre labelling, but that's a topic for another time)Death is obviously great but honestly there was already better death metal when they were still around. It's like saying Metallica is the greatest thrash metal band ever, fair enough if you think that but it's a little eyeroll worthy>>129930697It's a meme based on a 19 year old shitpost
>>129931010I've listened to Atheist and Cynic and I just don't find them nearly as compelling as Death. I agree about the early stuff but if you're just gonna say the later (better) music isn't death metal I really don't have any response.
>>129931045>I just don't find them nearly as compelling as Death.Focus is pure sovl, I think it's what Human ought to have been even if Human is my favorite Death album.>you're just gonna say the later (better) music isn't death metal He's right, the music is not DM and even the vocals barely resemble DM. If you listen to the studio demos for TSOP, the material was clearly written for clean vocals.
>>129930607>but at some point death metal turned into a competition on who can play the fastest blast beatsDeath metal was always a pissing contest about who could be the most xtreem. Naturally, the musicians got better and pushed the boundaries further. You construct this narrative that it wasn't that up to certain point, because that's the point where you got filtered tbqh lol
not even jazz and classical snobs are as insufferable as metal pseuds tbqh
>>129928365
>>129932053Too repetitive and the clean sections are mediocre
>>129932053it's hilarious how all you need to do is add some keyboard/acoustic passages to something and metalfags will think it's the greatest thing ever lmao
>>129932131I feel like that album got a lot more hype from outside of the metal niche desuI don't know why, it's not their best album. I guess genre blending melts normgroid brains.
>>129932108Opeth is better at incorporating the slower sections although tbf Opeth isn't really a death metal band even when they're aggressive. Blood Incantation absolutely is death metal though.
>>129932241BI are certainly the Deafheaven of death metal.
>>129932265Opeth bores me to hell. I like Orchid and Damnation but their most popular metal stuff is just not compelling. I think Blood Incantation is a good death metal band and just really mediocre at the rest. I'd say the best blend of metal and soft sections that I've heard is probably picrel. Not death metal at all though.
>>129932273This was a really good album though tbf
>>129931010That's cute but Symbolic is still their best album
>>129928416It was originally Mantis because there was another band named Death, but they realized nobody listened to the original Death and took their name.
>>129930398Steve Di Giorgio's stuff is pretty difficult without a pick.
>>129930429>they were like the first death metal bandYes, because Chuck copied the first Death Metal band.
