>>129935010This is his busiest year of recording next to 1956 and 1961 as they're preparing for the upcoming musician's strike.
>>129935015it was actually Mitch Miller who developed him into a pop country singer and Laine then re-joined him at CBS in 1951; they were good friends.
>>129934870The boring years when there is absolutely nothing but sleepytime crooner lullabies.
>>129934965Doris was a pretty flat singer in the 40s, her 50s singing was a lot better.

1946-1948Sonatas & Interludes for Prepared PianoJohn Cage the retarded caveman who famously brought us 4'33. A song that spanned 4:33 of him sitting at a piano doing nothing - silence. Brings us his new retarded masterpiece of 1946 - Sonatas & Interludes for Prepared PianoIf you thought a track of silence was bad, check out this gay album in which a 20-piece cycle for a piano is modified with objects like screws, bolts, and rubber between the strings to create percussive sounds. Yada yada yada something about being inspired by Indian philosophy.... nobody gives a Fuck old man, The Beatles did pajeet worship a million times better.

>An unexpected 1947 hit was the dusty old Ted Weems Orchestra disc "Heartaches" from 1931. A North Carolina DJ spun the disc and Decca was soon getting calls from people asking to buy the 16 year old and long out of print recording. The label brought it back and it became a top ten seller.

>>129937202So Connie Haines was kind of this Betty Boop character and she was also extremely cute in the 40s (also Frank Sinatra once saved her from burning to death, wack story there). She mostly quit doing pop music in the 50s and was more into TV. Perhaps she saw where things were going and decided she didn't want to end up recording "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window" kinds of songs. Yet she was also, bizarrely, the first white singer to record for Motown.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I15_KUsOzsThis song will be more famous later, methinks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_UNuiqOX7oMargaret Whiting was a short-lived late 40s fad but she didn't make the transition into the 50s and soon faded from the charts. But then again, the shameless Doris Day imitation here proves she deserved it. I actually would have thought this was Doris if I didn't know.

Went down to the Royal in Manhattan last Saturday. Appalling night. The featured act was this Theresa Breur girl whose singing sounded like a pack of alley cats battling over the contents of a trash can on the Lower East Side. The worst part was that she was only 16 so the club didn't allow alcohol to be served while she was out there. A few shots would have made that performance a little more bearable. I'm going to write a Dear John letter to Downbeat to complain about the appalling state of jazz these days. God help us all if some damn fool at one of the labels ever gives her a record contract.
