When I was 8/9 green day was my favorite band, but this was like 1999 so nobody my age even knew who they were, it'd been a while since Dookie. I loved all their shit, even some of Warning. Then I grew up a bit, and by 04 I was already through my classic rock phase and into indie bullshit. Then American Idiot blew them up again but this time with makeup and some emo getup. It was just so clear they were trying to tap into the new emo wave, and all the kids at my school loved it. Ngl that shit made me bitter lol.
I still can hit all the classic green day and fuck with it but American Idiot just sounds like shit, it was nowhere near as good as their old shit. If that shit wasn't a whole ass calculated move by the record label then idk how tf it blew up the way it did
