>>
>>129937294
Beasts of Bourbon
>>
Hum, Failure, God Machine, Therapy?
>>
>>129937949
>>129937294

>>

>>
>>129937964
your categories do not function.
janes, sp, hum arent alt metal
>>
>>129937294
The Wildhearts
The Almighty
The Tea Party
Early Manic Street Preachers
>>
>>129937294
>smashing pumpkins
>hard rock
wimpy pop music. corgan wanted to the band to be mainstream really bad
>>
>>129939349
Gish is very much Guns and Roses mixed with Janes Addiction.
>wanted to be mainstream
they were the biggest band in the world, all over radio and MTV. literally and openly mainstream
>>
>>129939511
>they were the biggest band in the world

Pppppppppffffffffftttttttt.

Want to put a date on that, Billy?

They were never bigger than Nirvana, ever. Not before or after ‘94.

At the height of their popularity they get utterly mogged by
>the offspring
>foo fighters
>smash mouth
>no doubt
hell, everclear had more fans.
>>
>>129939522
lol shit tier trash bands

>>129939511
gish is NOT gnr
>>
>>129939522
Mellon Collie era they were huge. Multiple songs in constant rotation on radio and MTV, magazine covers. It's hard to explain to a zoomer how much more famous rock bands were when there were maybe 20 globally famous 'hot musicians of the moment' available at a given time. Smashing Pumpkins were in the top 5 for a few years.
>>
>>129939581
true
>>
>>129939349
their first three albums are hard rock, a genre that was always pop-orientated
>>
>>129939576
>gish is NOT gnr
bro listen to this fucking shit
https://youtu.be/5GHAea0aiCU?t=36
>>
>>129939587
>>129939583
Siamese Dream is Black Sabbath, Boston, King Crimson, Queen, David Bowie and T Rex. I don't think they paid attention to Gnr
>>
>>129939603
you forgot Cheap Trick, Bi-Corg is an open disciple of them even though Zander talked shit about him
https://youtu.be/FY5pGTpEbMY
>>
>>129939603
>I don't think they paid attention to Gnr
listen to "I Am One" the first song on Gish and ask yourself if it sounds more like GnR or Sabbath
>>
>>129939647
I've never listened to gnr but Sabbath is their biggest influence
>>
>>129939587
uh
ive heard gish bro. my fav sp album. why dont you post some guns that you think makes your point
>>
>>129939657
dunno bout that
themost they have in common is a really good drummer (sp and sabbath)
the approach to riffs is totally diffferent
>>
>>129939677
billy said it himself. they brought the big muff to get sabbathy tones in the first place. war pigs is just one sabbath song that was embedded in siamese dream several times, especially geek USA. mcis has doomy sabbath songs as well
>>
>>129937294
i'd put first stp record in there rather than smahing pumpkins or replacements
even soundgarden wouldn't be wrong
badmotorfinger is pretty much that
>>
>>129939730
You are not wrong, but picrel have that extra power pop influence which I prefer
>>
>>129939825
Have you heard Ash?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkSl9GGOFHM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QenkF8cXzVU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Blnlvjqd8w
>>
Hard rock is an old school term, I don't know why you put hard in there. Those albums are alternative rock. Though Jane's' is an anomaly not really part of anything. Replacements I haven't heard. My comment exists to criticise your use of 'hard' basically. Omit that, thanks
>>
>>129939825
well you asked for alternative hard rock after all
>>
>>129937294
Certainly not the Replacements. They lean towards power pop if anything.
>>
>>129940067
Alice Cooper - Love It to Death
Clearly related to what the Replacements were doing
>>
>>129939692
yeah and there is no big muff on Gish at all
>>
>>129940067
there is a Kiss cover on Let it Be. Are you retarded or something?
>>
>>129939672
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lvLnpGH59Q
>>
>>129939672
>why dont you post some guns that you think makes your point
really? You can't hear "Welcome to the Jungle" in this?
https://youtu.be/5GHAea0aiCU?t=36
https://youtu.be/0CNPR2qNzxk?t=32
>>
>>129940231
not very convincing
>>
>>129940269
You just can't form an opinion that Spin Magazine didn't say. The GnR influence on Gish is heavy as hell, not surprising considering GnR were the biggest rock band at the time they made it.
>b-but Smashing Pumpkins are alternative and Billy says...
don't care. They sounded like Guns and Roses on their firs song of their first album. It's a fact.
>>
>>129940292
my opinion might be worthless on this matter, but didn't countless hard rock bands at that time sound like this? wasn't it just the default rock sound?
>>
more obvious GnR influence on the riffage
https://youtu.be/B15BrotSE68?t=72
>>
>>129940323
I'm not knocking them, it's just pretty obvious that Billy Corgan was highly influenced by Guns n Roses and maybe a bit embarrassed by it. So is Jane's Addiction, and if you listen to Jane's Addiction 'nothing's shocking' you'll realize that Billy Corgan owes even more to them
>>
THAT BEING SAID Post Nirvana success Billy quit making cock rock and tamed the guitar solos big time. Yes, there are a few shredding moments but it's never up front and center like it was on Gish, which is a shame
>>
>>129940214
Yeah and it's literally the only song in that style in their whole discography, a cover. Are they a jazz rock band because of Nightclub Jitters?
>>
>>129940399
the style of the cover blends in with the rest of the album. stop coping
>>
>>129940399
>>129940196
the first two songs on that album...
https://youtu.be/8ESrAYE8B_8?si=MVS_3iZZr4N3Ylgv
https://youtu.be/lnDuoUIktEI?si=6SdZQHERuFu1WAt4
>>
>>129940420
It doesn't in the slightest. Let It Be is a pretty eclectic album, but the common thread holding it together is power pop. The Replacements haven't done hard rock before or since.
>>
I think I'm looking for Alternative Rock that is influenced by 70s Rock such as Hard Rock, Glam and Power Pop. I'll try Beasts of Bourbon now
>>
>>129937294
Jane's Addiction is kinda forgotten these days, why is that? They've influenced a shit ton of bands. Nothing's Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual are still great albums.
>>
>>129940511
reddit cancelled Perry Farrel because he beat Dave Navarros ass on stage
>>
>>129940521
>beat Dave Navarros ass
he shoved him a couple times lmao
>>
surely billy must've been influenced by this? https://youtu.be/p3dYmtbLs20?si=z02VbgDeect6R7Gq
>>
>>129940525
Flaming Lips definitely. (their good shit not Yoshimi to current era)
>>
>>129940511
They lost their momentum due to infighting, since Perry is a cunt and most of them like drugs too much
>>
>>129940364
It's weird of you to say that since that video of Billy talking about all the 80s metal bands he loved, really obscure ones that never made it out of their home towns. Maybe all the bands put weight on GNR because they were successful - the biggest as at the time - but there's a case to be made they were trying to do things that were the opposite of them
>>
>>129940735
>that video of Billy talking about all the 80s metal bands he loved, really obscure ones that never made it out of their home towns
What bands did he mention?
>>
>>129940843
https://youtu.be/YTGdIh96Oig?si=02HiOyX9sivXHZmI
>>
>>129939145
No, they are
>>
>>129940458
You gotta listen to their live bootlegs anon..
>>
>>129941302
no cuz all alt rock is basically metal without the boring metal beer culture

>>129940226
>>129940231
your thesis is utterly ridiculous

>>129937294
Pearl Jam
Stone Temple Pilots
Local H
Amplifier
Maybe some Alter Bridge
>>
>>129940921
damn, obscure bands like rainbow and mercyful fate!
>>
Stoner Rock is a key example of this, with bands like Kyuss and Fu Manchu. The hard rock-leaning grunge bands like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Paw, Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, and Gruntruck certainly fit as well.
>>
>>129942644
oh, also, there are certain indie bands that have a strong Led Zeppelin influence, notably Wolfmother and the Secret Machines.
>>
>>129940921
>his fav band is black sabbath
>>
>>129942673
that's the case for pretty much every hard rock/metal musician born before ~1980
>>
>>129937294
My Chemical Romance
>>
>>129937294
early Manics
>>
Smashing Pumpkins have some vicious heavy metal. Their range was insane. Big hits with pussy shit like Rhinoceros and big hits with straight up metal like Zero and Everlasting Gays
