why are they so underrated, mu?
>>129938321as someone who got introduced to more hip music in like 2006 on lastfm, I just don't think their sound really hit any of defining characteristics of all the alt genres that attracted later generations. It doesn't really sound like "indie rock" the way that it was presented to me online when I was 16, it's not shoegaze or math or emo or any of that shit. It's just good songwriting and tonally lands in a sort of retrospectively bland area for exploratory kids of the later gens.I don't mean that in a bad way, I've listened to shame about ray probably more than most people, I fuckin love the lemonheads, but I don't think I would have liked it during my formative music discovery years. I didn't get into them until my 30s
>>129938426true. listening to If I could Talk I'd Tell You the other day I thought this could be the friends theme song sound wise, but under that is an amazing song
>>129942338yeah, that's one of my favorites too. Esp the live version from Rockoplast or whatever on youtube.I saw people talking about Liz Phair here the other day, and I'd put her in a similar group. Great songwriter, def had some "indie cred", but at the end of the day it is just songwriting with a backing band that sounds a bit more like 90s radio alt rock than it does all the big 90s indie shit. I guess maybe what I mean by that is that it's way more songwriting focused than it is instrumentally focused, or something. The band isn't very flowery/ornate, or heavy rocking, or experimental, or with sick guitar lines or a showy overplaying drummer, it's just songwriting with a band that existed in the times of 90s college rock. She's also great if you haven't dug in
