For many artists this would be a shining gem greatest release of their discography with no skips, and Deliver Your Children and Morse Moose & The Grey Goose would be the top of their song list. But because McCartney released it it’s considered mediocre.

There really isn’t a consistently good Wings album except for BOTR.

I’ve listened to BotR multiple times and I can’t figure out why people like it so much.
Feels like it was acclaimed at the time because Paul was making some stuff he was “finally supposed to be making”, and critical evaluation hasn’t looped back on that fact of its original popularity compared to the revisits that have happened for McCartney I and Ram.

Paul McCartney's music is the equivalent of boiled chicken

>acclaimed at the time
it wasn't really
it had many decent reviews, and some, like Robert Christgau (village voice) initially gave it poor marks (he later upgraded it)

and it had very slow sales, initially.
there was no tour and no major press push, either.
sales were slow enough that the label was able to urge McCartney to release singles.
he'd wanted avoid that, but it was selling poorly enough that he had to.

Jet and Band on the Run were released, and both were hits.

the album became the #1 biggest seller in Canada, US and Australia, and #2 in the UK.
it kept selling and selling, eventually equalling the success of Let It Be, the Beatles' biggest album

Really? I didn't know that. Are you sure?
