Tonight's listen:

The Brothers and Sisters - Dylan's Gospel

Before there was Dylan's gospel, there was Dylan's Gospel. It's an interesting concept: Bring together a choir of L.A.'s finest background singers and have them record an album of Bob Dylan covers as if they were spirituals. Released in 1969, it predates Dylan's first actual Christian album by a full decade. The vocalists here aren't just any bums off the street: They did or would go on to perform on albums by the Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan, Wings, and countless others. The lead performances are strong, but not always quite as passionate as those of the best "genuine" gospel groups. Very clean production as to be expected from Lou Adler. Any other producer might have made this into more of a hand-clapping revival meeting, which would have been enjoyable in its own way. I have to wonder who the target audience for this project was: Hippies with an affinity for the sound of traditional black gospel, or the other way around?

Target audience for this was Ayran chads who appreciate the song writing but didn't want sit through Bob's voice. He's both smug and jewish at the same time.

No way Jose. I am the filter itself. Zoomies read my comments and it saves them the trouble of listening to his judiac vocals instead of these actually talented white people.

>talented white people

Anon, nearly all the singers on OP's album were black
