Anyone heard this band? They seem gimmicky and pretentious as fuck. Prob sounds like shit but im curious

>Angine de Poitrine’s two members prefer to stay anonymous, wearing polka-dot costumes and body paint that hides all their features, going by the names Khn and Klek and refusing to speak in English or French in live interviews, communicating through an interpreter instead.

Beyond their striking visual look, it's their sound that has taken the rock world by storm. Khn plays a double-necked microtonal guitar, which allows them to play the tones between the notes on a regular guitar, such as quarter and third notes. The result is a blend of western rock with the scales of Indian, Arabic, Japanese and Turkish music that the band refers to as “mantra-rock Dada Pythago-Cubist orchestra.”

the white stripes built an image and gimmick around themselves (and it paid off) and Jack has continued a career making a gimmick label and releasing gimmick albums. why are you surprised

microtonal math rock is a lot easier to pull off than microtonal shit with lyrics. that cute girl with the pig tails touring with Primus or whoever right now is pretty good at making actual music out of microtones, because what AdP is doing is the same sort of "riff-by-numbers" writing that open-tuning math rock people, and chromatic chugging 'core bands all rely on- anything you do is justified as either "wow! sounds good" or "ah- gotcha with the jazz note!" without needing any other justification for why it's happening.
When you have a singer, or even just another lead instrument, suddenly the music has to actually be music.

Your whole thread is "anyone heard of this band?" -- yeah I saw them on KEXP and they made Tiny Desk look like Woodstock '99. If this is the shit that's gonna keep guitar stores open and a new generation starting bands and patronizing local alt. music venues then whatevs, it's not the worst trend. It was awful seeing Deerhoof play to, like, literally 10 people in a college town about 12 years ago, and I had the worse secondhand embarassment ever while I was there, so maybe this new wave of angular popularity will keep someone else from going through what I did.
Jack White has literally always been a sucker for lolsorandom shit, but generally has pretty good taste. AdP is cooler than Geese, currently, but neither is anything to be mad about like some people are (always gonna be.)

Sounds interesting, got a name? Only found this for their recent tour, don't think she's in those 3 acts.
Primus: The original funk-metal pioneers—expect classics like “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver,” “Tommy the Cat,” and “My Name Is Mud”
Frog Brigade: Extended jams, Pink Floyd covers, and deep-cut explorations
Claypool Lennon Delirium: Psychedelic journeys with Sean Ono Lennon, including new single “WAP (What a Predicament)”

They really need a singer
