Whats a real instrument?

>Cage was a pioneer in using turntables as instruments. In Imaginary Landscape No. 1 (1939), he used test recordings of constant and sliding tones, playing them at different speeds on variable-speed turntables. This work was revolutionary because it treated the turntable as a "percussion orchestra under the command of a single performer".
