I find this album to be severely underappreciated by most of his fans.
>>129982199thats how bad Africa night flight is.

>>129982199Lodger is a solid album that I'd rank as his 8-10th best but I kinda get why many don't care for it. The production wasn't great on it and even Bowie/Tony Visconti admitted that they wish they could redo it. And there's also some dud songs on it. African Night Flights is the worst song he made in the 70s, and I also don't care for Red Money since it's just a worse rehash of Sister Midnight on Iggy Pop's The Idiot. Low and Heroes are better albums, but it's still really good. And what's interesting to me is that a lot of Lodger sounds like Talking Heads>>129982905No he didn't
>>129982199it’s my favorite. i listened to it while making breakfast every morning for about two years
>>129982199It was done a great injustice by being considered part of the Berlin era. It needs to be understood and appreciated as its own thing like Scary Monsters instead of being known as "the other one".
>>129983768heroes is inferior to lodger, and who fucking cares about the opinion of its creators. lodger and low sre tied with station to station for the best bowie. and lodger was reappraised in the early 2000s and bumped to classic status by many outlets, along with station to station. even low was considered nothing special until the late 90s
>>129983801I'm just telling you why many people don't like it, the production could have used a little more work because it sounds muddy throughout the album, especially compared to something like Low which was meticulous and super creativeNah Low wasn't initially well received by critics but it was cherished by other musicians for its innovative sounds, so many artists tried to copy that drum sound for example as it was throughout the 80s. I don't remember Lodger having that same impact or reception
>>129983801you're really gonna diss my bois the creators like that
Lodger [RCA Victor, 1979]I used to think Bowie was middlebrow, but now I'd prefer to call him post-middlebrow--a habitue of prematurely abandoned modernist space. Musically, these fragments of anomie don't seem felt, and lyrically they don't seem thought through. But that's part of their charm--the way they confound categories of sensibility and sophistication is so frustrating it's satisfying, at least if you have your doubts about the categories. Less satisfying, actually, than the impact of the record as a whole. A-
>>129982199I think it's considered a top 10 Bowie album by the vast majority of fans
one of the best R&B albums of the 2020s. oh and months later, the grand jury STILL hasn't indicted D4vd. TMZ keeps screeching "two more weeks!" but nothing has happened.
African night flight is a great song. Go back to utter shit like black star
