The Downward Spiral is far better than his entire discography before and after.
Even then, he had a shit ton of producers on that album.
In fact the iconic TDS motif at the end of closer wasn't even his idea.
His drums on that album? Made by flood
His iconic samples? Recorded by a guy he hired to listen to movies all day

He has the angst and the money to put together an all-star team of people, but he's given too much credit as a lone producer.
In fact I'd probably just call him a singer who can play piano at best now.
