Why cant they play music without costumes?
To add some more: I haven't heard a band in a long time able to do riffs. The microtonal gimmick is doing work. In addition to their clown act, the running up and down the scales is really driving the hype. A lot of bands are just chords, vocals and some bass.

This thread is classic /mu/ contrarianism. I can speak for us all when I say, deep down, we all appreciate this band and the music they play, it’s enjoyable and fun as is their aesthetic. However, we here at /mu/ resent and reject the average person just now finding out about microtones and prog rock and bands with aesthetic gimmicks, and that’s where the sore spot is coming from.There is a song structure, it’s good for what it is. Is it something I or most people would listen to everyday, maybe not, but it’s fun listen to visit every once and a while, and as other anons have said, definitely seems like a fun show to attend. For those who are legit mathrock dorks, this shit fucking sucks in comparison to 99% of other mathrock artists. Sure they have cool time signature changes and polyrhythms, but there is absolutely zero melodic or human-sounding element to this which makes it fucking annoying to listen to. Its like when they were trying to come up with a concept for the band they were like, "lets just be as gimmicky as possible with zero concept". You can pull off a two-piece mathrock project, but you're going to have to incorporate some impressive level of technical guitar playing or heavier playing style to make it sound palatable. Think of Hella or Floral. To make it even more irritating, we all have to hear normies talk about how they found these guys on their timeline and how, "WOW THEY'RE PLAYING MICROTONAL GUITARS!!!
