It's definitely been uninspired by comparison but I wouldn't call it garbage. The Now Now was fun, Song Machine was very good if a bit aimless, Cracker Island was pretty shit though, The Mountain was pretty good. Humanz is best left forgotten. It's pretty unimpressive compared to their older stuff but on its own I think they have had more hits than misses.

He has an absolute treasure trove of unused recordings, not just of other people but of him. I wouldn't be surprised if you could stitch together multiple Gorillaz albums from what's left over after he dies.

Why, if they claim to be a band reinventing themselves and trying new things, do they sound 60% like generic rap and regular electronic pop? The only thing that stands out is maybe their lyrics, and not that much

I unironically like The Now Now better than Plastic Beach. Plastic Beach was disappointing when it came out because all the indents made the album seem like it was gonna be experimental, plus some tracks were ditched like the track they were doing with the Horrors. Don't get me wrong, I like Plastic Beach for what it is, but it was immediately disappointing back in the day.

That's not really been true since their return from a hiatus. They made two trip-hop albums with a somewhat unique aesthetic, then pivoted into a synthpop album with a somewhat unique aesthetic. Then they came back and apparently Damon only remembered how to write DARE and On Melancholy Hill.
