No prod thread?????
Prod thread.
BTW the answer is no.
>>
how do you guys achieve a sound separation on your tracks?
for example, im listening to BoC's TCH and the drums cut through the mix, have their own space, synths have their own space, and all the leads jump up from the track like they are visible on their own, they have their own space
is there anything more to it than just EQ-ing?
>>
>>130009497
you pick sounds that aren’t in the same spot and you don’t play overlapping sounds together.
be conscious of where things are in space (stereofield as well as closer/further) and adjust with eq of course.
really all there is to it. practice train your ears so on so on
>>
Do I need one of those tracks that gets the crowd to wave their arms back and forth slowly?
>>
>>130009779
that’s when i grab an overpriced beer to top off my pregame

no
>>
>>130009799
They seem to be crowd pleasers, but I guess it's been overdone to death now

Is a base mini mac good enough for logic pro? I will be recording real instruments & using some samples.
I refuse to use anything other than Logic pro, it's genuinely the only DAW I want

reunite /dmp/ and /prod/
>>
>>130009497
there is a thing called frequency masking. if you carve out the right frequencies for each track, they'll have their own space and not conflict with each other. and also what the other anon said, choose sounds that don't conflict with each other from the beginning.
>>
>>130009497
Ignore these two: >>130009566 >>130012776
Just use a sidechain and make it PUMP
>>
How do you get good at this shit? Is it a matter of just making tons of songs? Or do you like reverse engineer songs and sounds you like and combine them? Like realistically what do I need to do every day to improve?

added more funk to the french house number after studying the biblical texts

Sounds fun
>>
>>130013467
Yes
>>
>>130013467
yes you huge number of songs, preferably over a wide range of genres. you spend time actively listening to music you like and breakdown how its been made - like really trying to understand all the finer elements. you practice recreating sounds. you learn synthesis. you learn mixing.
over time this all gets absorbed into your subconscious and then when youre making tracks youll just *know* what to do

Any thoughts on this, before I decide if I want to keep expanding it?

>>
>>130013657
I'm using mine with FL Studio and I haven't run into any issues. To be fair I'm not one for hyper-complex arrangements so YMMV
>>
>>130013694
I've heard the new mac minis will run it no problem.
I wish Logic would come to windows though

I hate that some stupid AI company decided to name itself Renoise. Now when I search for videos about Renoise (tracker) on YouTube, it gets cluttered with AI bullshit.
Got dammit, I'm pissed.

What is the source of this sample used in lots of sci fi themes, for example this one, which sounds like CHIIING like a metal hit througout this song

For example olays at 0:59 each time the white letters appear

>>130010848
interesting experiments. some elements you could isolate and make something decent with
>>130013685
synths all sound a bit dull, potentially need to open up some of the lowpass filters a bit. lead melody is pretty boring. keep grinding

i can't understand this thing what does minor even mean
>>
>>130017600
韓国人ですか?
It's just an arbitrary definition given to an interval/chord quality that contains those intervals which were deemed to quality as 'minor.'
>>
>>130017676
>deemed to quality as 'minor.'
*qualify
My brain damage is showing; I need to go to bed.
First you must understand and internalize the patterns of whole and half steps that make up that which is the 'major' scale -- and then shift that pattern to start three half-steps lower to feel it from the perspective of that which is 'minor'
>>
Dawless niggas ITT, tell me about your setup.

anyone making anything worth listening to is using a daw
>>
>>130017830
I know, not what I asked.
>>
>>130009289
hardware synths are a pain in the ass in a DAW but desu if they have an editor VST that can recall patches with sysex then the problem is nearly solved. Only annoying thing is that the physical knobs don't reflect the patch and of course you have to record the audio for each track instead of just letting the MIDI run. Small price to pay though if you really like the sound of the synth. Unless you have one of these fuckers
>>130009497
it's all about EQ man. Whenever I build a drum kit or chop up a new break to save, I EQ out all the unnecessary bullshit on each sample so I don't have to fuss with it too much later when I'm actually coming up with musical ideas. Ofc gotta do more EQ once you've got the whole thing laid out but it helps a lot to nip it at the source
>>
>>130017688
..am i understanding it correctly? sorry i am dumb as rock
>>
>>130015904
pretty sure it's a drum hit played backwards. which one i have no clue. maybe a hihat?
>>
>>130013685
There's no payoff which makes it a little frustrating to listen to. Needs something satisfying every so often.
>>
why learning music is so much difficult than learning drawing

>synths all sound a bit dull,
Thanks, for some reason I always seem to prefer everything sound a bit flat, idk why...
>>130018486
Thanks, I'm just experimenting with different sounds. If I find anything that works, I'll try arranging it into a full track.
>>
Maschine any good for EDM?
>>
any good guides for learning about scales?
like.. ideally I'd be able to hear a melody, either out loud or in my own head, and know wtf scale it is, because right now I'm an idiot and have no idea
>>
A TR-1000 costs more than an MPC XL

Damn, Ruben played "Light the Skies". I haven't heard that in ages.

Bon Iver/Matthew Chaim inspired tune, although I guess it turned out more pop
https://voca.ro/1dIaDOxjiH9G
there used to be more of a trip-hop moment after the 3rd chorus but I figured maybe it dragged things on for no reason.
What do y'all think about the flow of the song?
>>
>>130017798
I'm waiting for KORG to release a new Electribe with the hope that they'll return to the OG and/or EMX/ESX style and pretend that the E2 was never a thing.
>>130018563
Music does not exist in a single instant. It relies on what came before and what comes after, so you need to keep all that information in your memory to appreciate/understand it. Contrast this with drawings that exist in a single moment; you can take everything in all at once without any regard to time.
>>130019011
Scale isn't really the appropriate term; you're either asking about modes (the pattern of whole and half steps based on a given starting point), or you're referring to key, which implies pitch (e.g. A = 440hz) and mode.
However, based on your goal of hearing a melody and then being able to understand it, what you want is this:

Thank you!
>>
>>130022142
You're welcome. That approach to internalizing the feelings of scale degrees just makes so much more sense than trying to memorize intervals/chains of intervals in isolation (what I was taught and had to do for exams back when I was taking piano lessons).
>>
>>130022199
Thanks, I've thought about taking piano lessons, but I need to see if I can have any kind of talent for this first before committing like that. I'd just like to do electronic covers of melodies I like.
>>
how do i get better at builds ?

maybe i should just loop spam to maximize arrangement practice for that
>>
i finally figured out how to get reaper to ignore windows 125% scaling, we're so barack. upgrading to reaper 7 has been mostly painless though they changed some default like not loading a blank fx window and it instead goes straight to add new fx. easily fixed
>>
>>130023722
and conversely a random windows update apparently destroyed half my plugins auto scaling in ableton so now i have to use tiny ass windows for all of the most inconvenient 20 year old plugins.
joy
