Where do you go searching for your records?

Mega ick out of this faggots shit. Uncool to the maxx.

Hey I just posted it for fun. If people aren't interested, more power to them. Can't force them to read if they don't want to.
But you did bump the thread, so that helps. Thanks.
>>130012479
I live in a thrift heavy area. Tons of resale stores and flea markets. Occasionally discogs if I find something juicy online or I'm finishing off collections for specific artists.
>>130012527
Are you from the 80s or something? Why are you typing like you're the villain in a bad Disney sitcom?
>>
A Sabrina Carpenter thread died for this.

Seriously though, which album by Brick is your favourite? Mines Good High

>>
>>130012664
Good High feels like the obvious answer but it really is amazing for it's genre and I can't pretend otherwise. Close 2nd would be Summer Heat.
>>130012697
You should be able to see the titles on the spines just fine.
>>
>>130013003
Is the s/t one any decent? I'm worried tat Brick is gonna get more and more disco each album.

Show me some of your jazz-funk favorites.
>>
>>130010276
ok i admit i didnt read every single one but why is it all like 70's shit? this looks like my mom and dad records i discovered in the basement when i was 13

All of the ones I've heard have been great. None of the ones I've listened to have been an outright dud.
>Show me some of your jazz-funk favorites
Sure. Pic related.
Obviously not ALL of the jazz-funk I own but these are what I consider the biggest highlights in the collection.
>>
>>130013422
Because I like 70s shit. Most of my favorite genres and styles are 70s shit. And it's easy to find good niche 70s shit at flea markets.
It's that simple.
>>
>>130013486
I am extremely enivous of the Art Webb. It's not super rare but just haven't found a copy in a couple years looking.
And that Herbie Hancock is my favourite. It might not be the most important, or or talked about album of his.
And I used to fuck bitches to that Crusafers album. Lots of other good stuff in there. Excellent pile.

My nigga

I'd post my collection too but I have them organized in crates record-store style so you can't see the spines
>>
>>130013541
Webb is a great one, but yeah it was pain for me to find too. I think I ended up having to get it as a gift. Same situation with Miles and Fela in the pic.
>And that Herbie Hancock is my favourite.
Same. Tied with Mr. Hands.
>And I used to fuck bitches to that Crusafers album
A little TMI but hey I'm a huge fan of the group so awesome taste. They're in my top 20 artists ever.
>>130013564
>but I have them organized in crates record-store style
Pull them out and post them anyway. It'll be fun.
>>
>>130010276
True music fan right here. What's the best (and worst) mastered records you have?

Also
>no Steely Dan
Mildly surprised
>>
>>130013677
I don't think I own any where the mastering is so horrible that it's noticeable or offputting, or at least it's hard to tell since most of them are second hand.
I will say the remaster of John Henry doesn't sound great but since it's my favorite TMBG album I couldn't NOT get it.
>no Steely Dan
Y'sure about that?
>>130010544
>>
>>130013003
>You should be able to see the titles on the spines just fine.
NO I CANT
>>
>>130013677
Not that anon, but I recently dug out a record I hadn't listened to in years that I forgot how annoying the mastering was. It's Dave Van Ronk - Folksinger, hardpanned stereo where the vocals are in the left channel and the guitar is in the right channel for a solo guitar album. Mastered by jazz legend Rudy Van Gelder actually lol
>>
>someone needs attention
Look at my funko pop collection guys
>>
>>130013734
I would LOVE to have some 60s-era Blue Note albums but half of them cost a kidney. One of my favorite organists has multiple Blue Note records but they're all going for $50 or higher.
>>
>>130013707
>Aja and Royal Scam (and one i can't make out)
Aja is one of my fav albums ever. Steve Khan played some guitar on their Gaucho album too.

Which gen are you? Boomer/millenial/gen x/gen zoomer? How long you been collecting?

>>130013734
The biggest shame for me is not hearing Steely Dan's Katy Lied and maybe Hendrix's Axis Bold As Love mastered the way they wanted it to be
>>
>>130013823
hendrix is shit
>>
>>130013744
Shut up, faggot.
>>
>>130010430
>all those Joni Mitchell albums
Actual legend. No Blue or Hejira? My favs by a mile. The recording of her voice on Blue is like she's singing into my ear it's so intimate

>>130013845
Took a shit on yer mum's Hendrix mate
>>
>>130013500
its all good and you do have a lot of great jazz and yeah ive seen a ton of these records at thrift shops over the years so i imagine its interesting to collect.
>>
>>130013868
Make me noglover
>>
>>130013891
>no Blue or Hejira.
There's a GIANT blue one right there, friend.
Also Hejira is the one between Don Juan and Summer Lawns. I don't think any vinyl copies of the album have the name on the side.
>>
Sorry for the shit picture but I am not getting back up again. This is a pile of the funky stuff I've had on in the past 48 hours. Some old some new.
>>130013635
I've never heard Mr. Hands. It's funny how that used to be THE Hancock album every store had in their bins. Now I can't find it anywhere.
>TMI
Yeah the Crusaders are one of the all time greats. I saw you have Rainbow Seeker so not a surprise you like them. Wilton Felder did a really great album in 1993 that never came out on vinyl. But its worth looking in cd bins for.
>>130013768
Just get a reissue. I'm so tired of bluenotefags acting like the only way to hear that shit is the most expensive. I've only got 70s Notes and they sounds like shit on filmsy vinyl. Donald Byrd had their best selling album ever and keep the lights on when they were going under. And they repaid him with poor quality control.
>still able to ball to them though
>>
>>130013823
>Boomer/millenial/gen x/gen zoomer?
I'm 28. Whatever gen that is, I guess.
>How long you been collecting?
Since middle school. Got gifted a copy of a Paul McCartney album and it just snowballed from there.
I own Katy Lied. How was that supposed to be mastered? I didn't
>>
>>130013981
I recognize that Deodato one. That was an album I owned in my VERY early days of collecting. Like within my first year. I got rid of it but it's a great album.
I haven't gotten to Sample's stuff yet but I'm excited to get to it. (the unalphabetized stuff starting at c.23 is where I'm up to listen-wise. I'm alphabetizing as I go).
>Just get a reissue.
I was talking about the reissues. The REISSUES alone were in the 50s range, it would get higher if I was dying to get the older pressings (which isn't a concern of mine, frankly).
I own tons of their 70s stuff, but the 60s albums are hard to come by, re-release or otherwise.
>>
>>130013997
For 28 you can say you own and can listen to some absolutely timeless music. Time is a great filter

With Katy Lied there was some big fuck up with the DBX (Dolby) noise reduction or something - the liner notes are a reference to it as well. They all gave up trying to mix it and Fagen and Becker never relistened to that album or ever played Dr Wu live even though it's a particular favourite song of theirs

>They all gave up trying to mix it and Fagen and Becker never relistened to that album or ever
Damn. Sucks for them. That's my favorite album of theirs.
>>
>>130014173
Cliche but for me it's Aja but Katy Lied has my favourite 3 song run of theirs
>Dr Wu
>EGTTM
>YGTII
They loved the sound of the studio piano they used to record the album but if got nerfed by DBX. Rick Beato did an interview with Michael Omertian too.

If you relisten to Laty Lied vs Aja/Gaucho do you hear the difference? Even before i read about it i felt Katy Lied didn't sound as full or clean as Aja
>>
>>130014050
Oh yeah I hear you. The jaz reissue market is going to kill itself by overpricing and hyping themselves up. Companies charge for stuff that used to be standard quality control.
>Joe Sample
One of the main Crusaders. His name pops up on a lot of stuff and if its cheap its probably worth giving a shot.
>Deodato
He keep saving himself from the chopping block. I think he's actually better after the CTI albums.

Do you know about the site Dusty Groove?
>>
>>130014341
>If you relisten to Laty Lied vs Aja/Gaucho do you hear the difference?
I think AJA is a little more polished and detailed with the panning but I don't think Katy sticks out to an extremely noticeable degree.
>>130014347
>One of the main Crusaders.
I know. That's why I'm so excited to get to his solo work down the line. High expectations with how much I loved their stuff.
>Do you know about the site Dusty Groove?
Not familiar with the site itself. I think they're a vendor on Discogs though so I'm sure I've bought from them before.
>>
Do you catalog your vinyl collection on Discogs?
>>
>>130014433
I buy on Discogs, I catalog on RYM. Reason being that the 'which pressings' aspect isn't as important to me and I just want a flat way of showing which vinyl I own for when I'm shopping. Hunting through the countless discog pressings to see which copy is yours was always the most exhausting part to me.
>>
>>130014431
Check out that site. It's amazing.

And I've always had the hunch that Fagen and Becker were just trying to fuck with everyone over the sound of Katy Lied.
>>
>>130010276
Rarest album in your collection OP?

>>130014721
I don't know how to quantify rarest in this context since a good chunk of my collection is super niche jazz. For now I'll post the most valuable (which is an OG pressing of Love Deluxe) and I'll make a collection post of some of my more obscure / 'weird' albums sometime later.

If we're going strictly by obscureness and rarities music-wise then these are some of the highlights / most interesting.

Can't say I recognize any of them, so good job

Pic related. Got it as a gift from my dad.
I used to own an AT LP120 with Edifiers (yes, I know, cliche, don't rub it in) but he read reviews and found out this company was a pretty reputable one.
So far they've been working pretty well and the needle is definitely much less prone to bending / skipping than the LP120 was. YMMV though.
>>
>>130016009
Huh, I thought that brand had shitty Amazon reviews
>>
>>130010276
Elegant Gypsy is the only DiMeola album I've heard. How are the others?
>>
>>130016088
They're all pretty great! His debut is my personal favorite, close 2nd being Splendido Hotel
>>
>>130010276
How much did all of this cost
>>
>>130016009
lol fucking garbage table, wtf
>>
>>130016009
You are lucky having such a sweet dad anon. The record player is fine, cherish it.
>>
>>130017110
Who gives a monkeys that collection will sound good on anything, including your mum.
>>
>>130017084
Hard to say. The records range from free gifts to about $40. It was dirt cheap back when I was collecting in bulk. I guess the median spent per record is around $5-$10 so anywhere from $12250 to $24500
>>130017110
It sounds fine to me so far. Adjusting the counter-weight was a pain in the ass but it always is on any turntable.
