Do people think this was the first ever album to blend synths, clean passages, and extreme metal or something? It's been done many times over, many times better by many others. The worst part is that I really like their death metal. The rest is just bland.
I never knew why people like that band, its the most overrated shit ever. The only thing I liked was that live video they have on youtube, but everything else is just so average. That album specifically is textbook example how not to blend different musical styles, there is no integration its just literally oh here is some OSDM riffs now here is some Tangerine Dream, arent we cool and sophisticated unlike those other smelly metalheads.
>>130017759I like their death metal, I think it's definitely above average, but yeah pretty much everything else you said is correct. What really turned me off was watching an interview with their frontman. He was so fucking pretentious.
i'm happy that they experiment with their sound, but i really hope they bring their synth elements in a better way next time. their intuition with death metal is on a much higher level than what they try with synth passages
>>130017630>Do people think this was the first ever album toNo they don't. Everyone knows about Nocturnus. The combination of DM and Krautrock however (which this is) is an innovation.
>>130017630It's certainly not a bad album but people claiming it was the best thing ever and super unique just don't listen to any metal beyond what gets reviewed by P4K and fantano.
>>130017630their "tangerine dream" LARP with synths is the most ridiculous shit i've ever heard, and i am into tangerine dream LARPs and synths.
>>130017630It's like Opeth but more forgettable
>>130019303Impossible
>>130017775I liked this band up until hearing and reading their interviews. The main dude Paul thinks he's a philosopher that boosted sales for Ironbirds singlehandedly (yes, he actually had a post on his Insta saying that their debut album caused a spike in BC Rich sales...not kidding). Earlier interviews of the band, including the other guitarist say their music is not for "posers" and for intellectuals, which is funny considering how much these dudes are trying to pose as musicians from the 70s.I'm in the camp of yeah their music was okay, decent but not anything incredible, but the band themselves and the fans turns me the fuck off.
>>130017630I felt the opposite, the prog parts of this album were nice if a bit boring but the metal parts were painfully cliche (especially compared to where they started out with starspawn)either way it's an overrated record and gets mogged by any number of recent tech/prog death releases, like the new Cryptic Shift
>>130018663/thread. the problem with tourists is that when they do happen upon a good album, they have to act like hyperbolic ignorant retards and claim it's some unique flawless masterpiece. happens in every genre including metal.
>>130020057The "prog" parts were less progressive than their metal lol. >Cryptic ShiftGave a few songs a skim just now. I think that's way more generic than Blood Incantation's death metal.
>>130020119they use Vektor riffs a bit but there's not many death/thrash bands that actually sound like Vektor and their composition style is very different I knew absolute elsewhere was mediocre when blood incantation busted out the most generic soaring atmoblack style tremolo riff as the climax of a song and genuinely expected me to be impressed
>>130020209I wasn't saying it was bad, just that it's no less generic than Blood Incantation. Doesn't seem to have as interesting drums and harmony as Vektor either. Also the vocals suck. I know it sounds like I'm just shitting on this music, I don't think it's bad, I just wouldn't listen to it over Death or Vektor.
Oh yeah, the new Cryptic Shift is a great album!
>>130020312idk how you can sit down to Overspace and Supertime and come away thinking "I'd rather just listen to Symbolic" but I guess when I listen to Blood Incantation I usually feel like I'd rather be listening to Mithras or Tomb Mold so we'll have to agree to disagree
>>130017630This was the superior prog death album with synthshttps://anabstractillusion.bandcamp.com/album/the-sleeping-city
>>130017630>It's been done many times over, many times better by many others.I would love it if you listed these many albums. No ill intention, I do mean it because I'd like to listen to more of this stuff and have a broader point of reference to judge Absolute Elsewhere.

>>130020532Symbolic is a 10/10
>>130021031>>130021062>synths, clean passages, extreme metalI'll add some more recommendationshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crNfUtJefV4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJFe38CsmR4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eve71DbyQ8U
>>130017630Fans of this album saying segues seamlessly between DM and electronic are fooling themselves to stay in line in the herd. Nearly every transition between both styles happens without a clean transition, like you're changing the station on a radio. Fanboys gonna fanboy.
Not music.
>>130022458>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eve71DbyQ8Ubased, my prog metal album of the decade so far
>>130022552This band has about as subtle transitions as Twelve Foot Ninja
>>130021263Symbolic is like a 9/10 but that doesn't mean that I want to listen to it all the time or that it scratches the same itch as spaceslop like Cryptic Shift
Black Metal has key parts since the very beginning and most of them are more complex. Why the fuzz?
>>130017630metalfags typically only listen to metal so it's no surprise they think that album is the greatest thing ever.
>>130017630What are some good dm with synths? I like picrel even if goofy at timeshttps://youtu.be/QW4e_FoiuSQ?si=hfBWo6MbKRa2bSi9
>>130025722Goofy AF, but still somehow more interesting than whatever album BI put out.
