With 35 years of hindsight, why did Lush fail to become the new Abba?
With 35 years of hindsight, it's clear that shoegazing failed to produce a single song of note. Therein lies your answer.
>>130018095Ride's Vapour Trail holds up well enough.
if only the NME was still around, they could shill the fuck out of shoegaze again and remain in business
>>130018076>logo is in front of the drape which is in front of the girl in the foreground>logo is behind the guy in the backgroundit always got on my tits when they did this shit
>>130018076>you now remember mel gibson's grebo phase
If the radio played Lush as much as Abba, the world would be a better place
>>130018076Music industry media isn't worshipped like Pitchfork was in 2010The lazy & obnoxiously leftist Walter Kronkite Jews that wrote the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Merriweather Post Pavillion reviews are full of a jealousy that only comes from a lifetime of writing ABOUT music instead of PERFORMING MUSIC OR CREATING ANYTHING OTHER THAN AT ITS BEST A GOOD RECOMMENDATION FOR POPULAR ART AT THE "FRINGES" OF THE MAINSTREAMMy agony is any OCD preventing me from touching a DAWFuck tiny ass hdd'sYou need Terabytes for any sort of art careerUnless you are wealthy enough to do everything in AnalogI feel stupid as fuck existing instead of making something suicide is better than not making artWithout it Im useless
>>130018076By the way, if ypu like Lush, there is now tje Miki Barenghi Trio. That's like half of Lush.
They weren't a trust fund band.
>>130023636They were--like all shoegazers--poncey middleclass wankers, so halfway there anyway.
Lush were pretty good but lol that's an insane comparison. They covered an ABBA song, so thats probably what the cover is about. The press/labels sort of tried to push them but they didn't fit with grunge or britpop at all. MBV were more innovative so are preferred by critics. They were bigger than Slowdive were in the 90s, but Slowdive ended up getting rediscovered by the internet and made the #2 shoegaze band.
>>130018076lush are more like cocteau twins mixed with 60s girl groups than ABBA
>>130023752wow thanks mr epic music guy
>>130018095>When You Sleep>Sometimes>Alison>Cherry-Coloured Funkare you even listening? they all could've and should've topped alt radio charts.
>>130018076They weren't that great. There was no big defining song or album.
>>130023662Lush were festival filler, gig guide slop, something 4AD could half-ass while they waited for new Pixies shit. Mouthy slags who gave passable copy in the dark ages of the Baggy-Britpop interregnum.>>130023752Fuck off. If Lush were ANYTHING like '60s girl groups they'd have at least one memorable song, which they don't.
>>130023863Lush >> Ride
>>130018076Lush were going just fine until their drummer killed himself. Maybe if they had kept going they could've been bigger than they were.
>>130018076They should be proud of getting as far as they did with a name as generic as Lush. When is this band ever the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word Lush? Before them I'd think of the general concept of lushness, then that vibrator that goes off when you give an e-thot a tip, then an internet radio station, then the fact that I didn't know I needed to see Imogen Heap naked until just now when that station played her songhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_SqU-Ys3-0
>>130018076bum not big enough
>>130022665>Music industry media isn't worshipped like Pitchfork was in 2010i never fell for it. i wonder why a lot of mutants fell for it
>>130018076the cousin of the retarded jap that abused disabled people
>>130023787spooky is lowkey goated
>>130018076Lush, like every British act of the '90s, were insincere and just played whatever was going to get them the most attention and plaudits. Every British act from that decade is basically fighitng to be jacked off by NME and every ime the Bongoloid taste in music would change they'd change with it. That's why all these bands went from shoegaze to Britpop to trying to do trip hop and/or inevitably breaking up. Lush was no different than any of the rest of them except for Miki probably being hotter than a lot of the other shoegaze/britpop chicks.
>>130018076I like lush but throwing muses mogs them
>>130018076ABBA was a wholesome band, two husband-wife couples. The men did the songwriting; the women, the singing. What did Lush have to back it up?
>>130018076>ITT zoomers incapable of recognizing gen x bong humour and think NME were actually comparing Lush to ABBAgrim
>>130026507That you single her out just because she's attractive is sexist in this contextWhy not start your own band moron?IgnoramusNME was Pitchfork for the early mid 90s before Eric "Poop Fetish" Schreiber blew up like the world trade(i.e. the explicit mention of a hipster early 2000s field trip to a Scandinavian scat fetish chicken house during a Franz Ferdinand review for Self Titled)
>>130030573zoomers are generally retarded, sadly
Miki a cute

>>130030573Well it's pretty clear they didn't read the full image
Lush always makes me feel like a bong-teenager rich girl taking acid and doin trips in all Europe.
>>130026507She seems a bit bitter about her time in the 90's music industry:https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/sep/23/miki-berenyi-the-claim-that-britpop-celebrated-sassy-women-in-bands-was-a-veneer>At one of the Soho House soirees, while I order drinks, a drunk comedian slurs at me to either suck his cock or fuck off. As I stand chatting to friends, Alex from Blur is sprawled on the floor making “phwoarr” noises and sinks his teeth into my arse.>I fall into conversation with Keith Allen and try to ignore him sweeping his eyes around my body, twitching with overheating gestures and tugging at his collar to show he’s letting off steam. Another comedian sharing a cab ride suggests he come in for a bunk-up, despite having spent the entire night excitedly chatting about his imminent fatherhood. Liam Gallagher shuffles around me, wondering aloud when I’ll be ready to fuck him in the toilets.>This isn’t flirting, it’s constant, relentless sexualisation. And there’s a nasty edge to it, implying that it’s me, not them, who is asking for it. While Justine from Elastica and Sonia from Echobelly and Louise from Sleeper, wearing suits or jeans and T-shirts, get treated as one of the boys, my long hair and short dresses are now a signal that I’m gagging for it. I’ve been doing what I do for years and now I’m being reframed as happy to be objectified.>There wasn’t much solidarity between the women, either. Feminism was just an empty “girl power” slogan that seemed to be more about celebrating your girly BFFs and being “allowed” to get your tits out than treating women as equals. So: sorry for being a party pooper, I know a ton of you had a blast, but I fucking hate Britpop and I’m glad the whole sorry shit-fest ended up imploding.
>>130038707well lush sound better than those other groups, Britpop mostly sucked except blur maybe
>>130038707lol @ her downplaying the shit Justine, Donna and Louise got. Unlike Lush their bands actually troubled the charts from time to time and received way more attention and abuse. And of course she's bitter about Big Bad Britpop, it made her little Shoegaze cocoon irrelevant overnight. Not that any of the above stopped Lush from attempting their own Britpop pivot with an album so bad that trve fans have to pretend it doesn't exist.
>>130038707>I fucking hate Britpop and I’m glad the whole sorry shit-fest ended up implodingI agree
