It's music that relies more on synesthesic sense of shape, texture, and motion more than melody for the most part so I suspect some people are more suited to it than others at a more fundamental animal level. Transposing the aesthetic rubric of sculpture and conceptualist fine art (i.e. Matthew Barney) onto bougie electronoc pop music was a smart bit of cultural synthesis and the last truly original thing I've seen done in music in recent years. The people it clicks for don't need it but to see the appeal you may benefit from looking up her early interviews where she's more open about her rationale. She also captured the zeitgeist in a particularly heightened and exuberant fashion, and of course appealed to the LGBT market for sociopolitical reasons, but there's plenty of tranny electronic artists, so it's not as if her acclaim can be put down entirely to that. Personally I think Heaven Suspended is the best thing she did. Fucking awful way to die, nobody deserves that over a chance decision.

Took me a while to get into her music, its not for everyone. Its the over the top production style that makes her stand out but since then there have been a bunch of imitators so she might not stand out as much. Still love her though
