Does /mu/ have any recommendations like picrel? Also what's your favorite from this release? I'll start:
>Make Out In My Car
>Don't Bother Calling
>Self-Help Tape
>Lonely World

Plastic, Quarrel, and Doomed are the clear standouts for me. Lonely World is one of his worst songs imo, and a big stain on this otherwise great album. As far as similar, it's in the vein of Björk and some Radiohead because of the singing and electronic elements, so anything rec'd near their sounds should do. OP album is underrated, but his most recent songs are really bad, so I'd be surprised if this got any new attention.

Interesting. Is it the riff or maybe the motif that doesn't do it for you? Looking back I would actually swap out Lonely World with Quarrel. I had actually considered putting in Quarrel instead of Lonely World because I do like it better as a standalone, but Lonely World had the lead in from Stoicism and I guess when I brought up those four I was thinking of the state I was in when I first listened to them.
>Björk and some Radiohead
Many thanks. I'll do more digging into this specific sound since it's just refreshing to listen to
>his most recent songs are really bad
damn. might give a listen for myself to see what I think but its honestly what I was afraid would happen. Sometimes you really do just capture lightning in a bottle

It's the climax of Lonely World. The motif is OK, but that climax is kinda grating to my ear and goes on way too long. His album after this has some good stuff, and I like the live album because he likes to rework songs a bit, but now he's doing some slick poppier sound that I can't get into.

I figured that was probably it. I didn't mind the climax all that much but I can see where people would be off put by it. A lot of it is also the headspace you're in when you listen to these. Listening to them for the first time vs listening to them years later vs listening to them high etc.
>slick poppier sound
ah shit. Well I'll still check it out but yeah damn I wonder if there is a way as an artist for you to evolve your sound without changing your brand. Yet it raises a good question, do you build your identity around that first release? How many artists and bands had shit first albums and needed like two more to really find their sound and what they were best known for?
