The songs were just not as good as on the first 2 albums. In fact, they never matched their debut ever.

Plus their recipe got a bit old by the late 00s. And they kept using it until their last album. With some extra additions, like doing songs that sounded more like funk or disco. Just more of the same retro shtick.

They ended up sounding out of time.
