>music isn’t worse now, you’re just old>everyone thinks the music that came out when they were a teen is the best!but the music when I was a teen sucked too mostly and I listened to older stuff
>>130036750so you've always been an out of touch dickhead
>>130036750Both things can be true

>>130036750Is that the showing everyone online you did guy
You’re actually correct.https://youtu.be/pFxdDE0k1_Qhttps://youtu.be/YQX2CsMCB9M
its subjective, there is no saying what is better or worse.
>>130036750There was bad music 60 years ago. It's just nobody remembers it. Time is a filter for quality
>>130036750I want new genres, not made-up RYM genres. Why did evolution stall?
>>130039870There's no underground, everything is online and it means it all just segues together instead of evolving on its own. It's why culture began to stagnate just as the internet became more widely adopted.
>>130038699>everything is subjective
>>130036750So youve always been a le Born in le wrong generation fag who got influenced by his parents who were nonstop blasting their 80s dadrock when you were a kid?
>>130036750still waiting for zoomers to revive Warped Tour
It’s less ‘bad vs good’, and more just with time and exposure, fewer things excite or leave an impression on me. At 35, im at the point now where more often than not, ill check out something new and end up going “oh this is just (whatever band that’s older)” and move on.Idk, maybe music truly has stagnated. Or maybe true old heads were thinking the same shit 20 years ago about The Strokes or whatever. It’s hard to say. But I’ve certainly not found anything interesting out of the “indie” scene in the past 5 years or so. I like Geese, I guess. But I’d consider that an extension of the sort of no wave revival, which while some of that is good, it’s not all that novel. When was the last time a new artist felt like actually something novel or had an artistic impact? Death Grips?
>>130040035>Or maybe true old heads were thinking the same shit 20 years ago about The Strokes or whatever. The Strokes were essentially a throwback to the 60s garage rock sound but neutered and made more palatable by mixing it with a more "indie-rock" sound, and I say this as someone who likes the StrokesI do believe that the death of subcultures or even of any real culture is partly to blame. My older brother was a teenager right when MTV was booming with lots of different alt music genres and it's almost insane the variety they had there. It also meant that if you went to a rock bar and started talking to anyone your own age, they would have opinions on the same artists that you knew, even if they didn't like them. Nowadays, people are mostly left by themselves to develop a taste in music, which means that once you go outside of the mainstream (or the bands that were mainstream in past years), you could have almost nothing in common with other music fans your age. Then again, I don't think it's a coincidence that most songs that go viral on Tiktok these days generally tend to be "older", but part of that is definitely that people WANT to have a shared culture with each other through music which is just getting harder to do these days. I really should try to listen to more new stuff, but I usually only end up giving it a few tries before going back to listen to stuff I already know I like, or I end up digging deeper into the discographies of bands I know I enjoy already
>>130040035I dont get it if some zoomerfaggot decides to ripoff some guy i really like id still listen to that shit
>>130040035Skrillex
>>130036750this guy needs to have his face peeled back
>>130036750Lol I just watched Adam ruins everything lately? Are you watching me?
>>130036750I'm 19 (20 next month). Music is worse now.I grew up during the pandemic discovering the world of garage bands making a name for themselves and getting to tour the world off of nonsense they made in their homes. I thought there would be an entire new wave of this happening for me to be a part of once covid was over and then that never happened and all we got instead was a bunch of silly electronic music made by gendies and soulless country drivel for faggots with a persecution complex who want to LARP as "rugged"
>>130040246>>130040035on the subject of the strokes… think I speak for most millennials when I say that I fucking hated the strokes, the white stripes, buckcherry, staind, disturbed, RHCP, and most of the popular ‘00s rock bands… gorillaz and QotSA were clearly good just never got into them…and I was still 1000% happier with where music was at compared to now due to tracks like https://youtu.be/VlBhDeQhMMYhttps://youtu.be/m-uztVX6QFQhttps://youtu.be/sRbKzumSPVwhttps://youtu.be/2kXMcjKhBgUhttps://youtu.be/_Q7IJOYxAMoelectronic music back then was on an entirely different level.
>>130042213>strokes, the white stripes, buckcherry, staind, disturbed, RHCP, and most of the popular ‘00s rock bands…this, pure Xer slop>Phats & Small - Turn Aroundi completely forgot about this track, so good, thanks for reminding me>electronic music back then was on an entirely different level.another truth nuke. incredibly BASED post, anon!https://youtu.be/492p1sCou_U?si=AzaRs3pyOJMkwaGL
yeah music when my dad was a teen was peak and I don't even dislike 21st century music
>>130042486You need to listen to more classical.
>>130042510no problem with classical but I'm never going to bother getting into it, same with Electronic or rap, well I guess I respect classical more than those
>>130042558electronic music is better than classical
>>130042576outside of like 1% of it electronic is a soulless non artist genre
>>130042558You should bother getting into it. It's a lot more important to understanding music than rap or electronic.
>>130038699entry level basic bitch opinion, there is absolutely objective qualities to music, you can very easily say any lazy nog who puts on a trap beat and hits 3 notes on a keyboard before saying nigga 40 times is objectively garbage music just as the hick talking about his truck over tired old soft rock tunes is objectively trash
>>130040035Notice how you're just citing rock bands. Rock has stagnated because it's run out of different ways to arrange music in a style that can reasonably be categorized as rock, which means all that's left are "revivals" and the old legacy acts themselves.
>>130042609Classical was pop music for the elite of 1785, background music while they were feasting, nothing more, zero emotions because it was just meant to accompany their gluttony as the common folk was starving and dying of old age once they turned 40.Mozart was nothing more than a glorified birthday DJ, the David Guetta of 350 years ago. Electronic music, unironically, is more soulful.https://youtu.be/6Dzfs_gi3S4?si=ej_Zwxx65GH9GL8D
>>130042656>I have never listened to classical music
>>130040254lel at this anon trying to act like Skrillex is worth anything
>>130042663Mozart, Bach and all the other hacks aren't being talked about because their music was great, but because they were the first. Nothing about them is impressive, not musically, not sonically, not in terms of their basic melodies. Like i said it's background music completely devoid of emotion, i'd rather listen to an average movie OST than boring classical shit that posers pretend to like.
>>130042699hes right in context of the anons last question
>>130042213RHCP are very good, though. Even purely for the fact that they managed to get one of the best rock bassists, guitarists and drummers into the same band for multiple albums. Flea alone probably inspired more bass players than nearly any other bassist at this pointDisturbed's first album is pretty good, but it is also pretty standard nu-metal. Never liked that one White Stripes song and the rest I've only barely dabbled inQotSA are very good, although I'm also a fan of Kyuss. I'm not a huge fan of the post-grunge stuff though and that's what mostly got popular around this time
>>130039870>Why did evolution stall?Social media and everyone having phones mean everyone stays in their bubbles which destroys subcultures and reards the creation of new ones beyond fake micro-genres that basically consist of a handful of zoomers and younger millennials taking old music and putting effects on it and in reality are more about the aesthetic (album covers specifically, almost always a distorted version of '80s/'90s stuff) than any music because they're more micro art scenes with some half-assed attempts at music attached than actual music genres or subcultures.
>>130042734>RHCP>goodNigga what
>>130038703>There was bad music 60 years ago. It's just nobody remembers itWell 60 years ago was 1966 and that year didn't have too many duds in it unless maybe it was the Lettermen.
The ACCESS to music has never been greater
>>130043781Flea is one of the best bass players of all time
>>130044050If he were any of the members were any good then RHCP wouldn't be the worst band of all time
>>130043781>>130044080you all had their CDs when you were 12, admit it
>>130044080Not even the guy you're replying to, but anyone who knows anything about music has high praise for the skill of the individual members besides Kiedis (probably not even the best singer in the band)Chad and Flea have recorded stuff with a large number of different artists. You might say that people are requesting it due to their fame instead of their skill but frankly the average person is not tuning into a song because "the drummer from RHCP" is on it. >RHCP wouldn't be the worst band of all timeThey're not even the worst band on anon's list
>>130044096Projection. They've always been shit.>>130044134Again, if they were good it would overcome the absolute retarded slop they put out. It doesn't. Worst band of all time.
>>130044050>>130044096>>130044134>defending the RHCPSo this is what /mu/ has become..
>>130044194lel so edgy xDDdddMike Patton hates you
>>130044218What is edgy about anything that anon said?
>>130036750To give the devil his Jew you could argue that that was the music you heard when you were a child/teenager even if it didn’t come out now. However I could personally say one of my favourite bands are The Beach Boys and I only really appreciated them when I was 30 (I’d heard them before but written them off as a novelty band)
>>130044230He's not saying anything of actual worth. For such a slow board, it's almost identical to just shitposting
>>130036750Okay, so what music from the last 15 years will be played 35 years from now?
>>130045806Taylor Swift and Gangnam StyleDrake too
>>130042213You arent a millennial if you hate the strokes and how are you going to lump that garage rock revival stuff with that cockrock/buttrock shit they played on the radio? You sound like a normie that has no idea what youre talking about
>>130049045I'm a zillennial.
>>130040246The strokes are better than a lot of bands they were inspired by, musically, at least. They are on a different level compositionally compared to your average rock band. Much more sophisticated, much less blues-influenced harmonically etc. Has more in common with classical music than rock music in some ways. Anyone who disagrees is a fag or hasn't studied music academically in any way.
>>130042656Lmao quality shitpost
>>130042703Bach is better and more emotionally-stirring than nearly anything ever recorded so definitely completely wrong about that. How hilarious to assert it's just because he was first. You probably couldn't comprehend the influence that man made on music and continues to make on music, frankly. Any serious musician who creates something intricate and sophisticated harmonically using counterpoint or voice leading owes him a debt. Including electronic artists. Total fag take.
>>130043781Objectively they are good musicians. Frusciante and Flea in particular.
>>130049172classical lacks coherencethe melodies feel completely random
>>130049200Listen to Prelude in C Major and tell me it lacks coherenceYou would have your mind blown if you actually worked on your ear training and could hear how many artists lift from classical to make their own music. I mean they essentially created the formulas that popular music utilizes and loops incessantly but never develops further. You need to listen to more music in a critical way and learn more about music before giving your hot take and it will be to your benefit as a musician or even just as a listener.
>>130049045strokes was just buttrock for alt peeps
>>130036750You either love him or love to hate him. Adam Ruins Everything really, really needs a new season.
