Is rap dead?
>>
>>130045940
Finally.
>>
Billboard is basically dead
>>
rap isn't dead it's just that all the rappers are scared to drop because secretly they all know the kendrick/drake beef isn't over and that means if you ever supported one of them you can't get a feature or a sample cleared from someone that supports the other side.
>>
oversimplification caused by too many rule changes will likely lead to charts like youtube music and spotify, where songs from 30 years ago start ranking, rendering the system unusable
>>
It's time to engage the Tone Loc
>>
>>130045940
>bald
>divorced
>grinds on trannies

I almost, but don't quite, have more respect for Aubrey Graham.
>>
>>130045940
Is that a snapchat filter or is that actually what Chance looks like now?
Buddy, unless you're Maurice White you're not gonna pull off balding. Just cut your losses and shave it.
>>
It's been dead as a genre since actually rhyming went out of popular fashion. That said there is good rap music being made it's just not what the majority (retards) seem to listen to so it doesn't chart.
>>
>>130045940
This shit makes me believe in usaid funding conspiracies or something. Rap was fucking everywhere. It was massive. Rappers were like giga famous. Now its just gone. Even the weird reddit worship shit for Kendrick seems to have vanished. Zero. Nothing.
>>
>>130045940
its not dead but its passe. its now firmly a subculture rather than *the* culture, like rock became after the 00s
>>
all the up and comers died (killed/ODed) or stopped making rap in favor of something else, not really surprising when the only thing of note to happen to rap in the last half decade was two almost 40 year olds flinging shit at each other

>>130045972
nobody gives a shit about that anymore
>>
Hard to sell a genre of music that's all about partying, crime and degenerate behaviors to a generation that's into healthmaxxing and staying home.

Would you recommend me some?
>>
>>130046435
Than what is the main popular genre right now?

dance pop

R&B is still going strong, a lot of overlap with hip hop

We're in a weird transitional period where another dominant genre hasn't emerged yet. With how fragmented the media landscape is in today's world, maybe there just won't be another dominant genre at all, everyone will just be siloed into their own algorithmic bubbles from now on and there will be no more monoculture that ties music together.
>>
>>130047396
>there will be no more monoculture that ties music together.
good
>>
>>130046800
Nobody cares about Flopman or BBL Drizzy in general anymore. He's going to release another bloated 40-track playlist and game the streaming numbers so Lucian can make a lot of money off of him again, but it will make zero cultural impact and nobody will be able to name a song from it within two weeks of its release.
>>
>>130047414
i guarantee with 95% certainty iceman will be very impactful on the culture. drizzy will dominate the charts. just watch.
>>
>>130045940
No, the underground will take over
>>
Just let it go. You guys had a great run and some pretty complete social dominance. Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.
>>
>>130047477
Yeah, just like For All the Dogs and all the classic iconic songs it contained like... uh... the list goes on... Or that incredible collab album he did with PartyNextDoor last year that totally wasn't memoryholed ASAP.
If You're Reading This It's Too Late is the last time Drake's slop made an actual impact without being a humiliation ritual for him, and even that was just okay. And that was 11 years ago. Aubrey is already washed at 39 while Kanye is still the GOAT at 48, damn, that shit's got to sting for the Drizzy guzzlers.
>>
>>130047522
his projects from 2022 onwards were abrasive and didn't try for mass appeal on purpose..
it makes sense considering where he is at in his career.. his ridiculous success for the past 10+ years. the drake vibe since 2022 has been
>you know my success i don't need to prove myself anymore
iceman is signaling to be a return to form and I cannot entertain the "rap is dead" discussion until it drops
>>
>>130045940

>>
Ok but how long since a rock song (actual rock, not Imagine Dragons or Mumford and Sons or whatever) charted?
>>
>>130047811
uhmmmm
about... like uhhhh 15 years? Its totally what all the urban zoomers listen to, i was at a Weezer concert recently and all the women were about 21.
>>
>>130047811
why do rap fags got to bring up rock music like thats going to prove some sort of point, rap still dying
>>
>>130045940
The only interesting rap had in the past 10 years was mumble rap and that died with teriyaki 69 and the others dying.

And the old guard haven't really excited or done anything interesting for the youth except the drake v Kendrick and that only lasted a few weeks.
>>
>>130047923

Rap, Pop, edm, classical, theyre all very open minded but rockists and metalfags seeeeethe all day about other music

rap peaked with soundcloud rap, lil peep, xxxtencion, juice world, all of that was to be the new generation of rap, but they all died or went to prison

then covid happened and music in general fell off
Then the beef between kendrick and drake happened, this was like the season finalie of rap, it was conscious rap vs pop rap, and conscious rap won, unfortunately conscious rap doesnt top the charts or gets the bitches going

now rap is sort of like a zombie walking towards its final death
>>

>lil peep, xxxtencion, juice world, all of that was to be the new generation of rap, but they all died or went to prison

People can speculate on sales figures but this was the actual death of hip hop. You'll never convince me peep was good, but like it or not he, X, juice, and more were supposed to carry the torch, and they weren't just retards like Xan. They had legitimate talent and followings. Genres don't survive that kind of loss, certainly not a genre that was already stale by the time we got here.

Drake makes club music.
>>
>>130045962
mostly this but their changes are for the good so fucking faggots can't rely on streaming numbers to keep people in the charts months after its use-by-date

Latino gangs literally target blacks in order to remove them from their neighborhoods, what other group could be possibly said of "wiping" them out?
>>
the first recorded hip-hop record was Rapper's Delight by Sugar Hill Gang, they were signed by a small, nearly broke label owned by the chick from Mickey & Sylvia.

NWA was started by Eazy-E to launder money he made from being a male prostitute. Dre and some of the other guys spent the 80s making electronic party music as part of the LA club scene.

Biggie was discovered by Puff Daddy after he got fired and needed something to stop himself from going broke.

Tupac was the son of a Black Panther member who began his career as a dancer for Digital Underground. His first single was New Jack Swing and he only crossed over to rap after getting shot in Biggie's foyer.

a few of the ground-floor producers were Jews, like Rick Rubin, and there were a couple in LA as well. but then the producers didn't always fund the records, they just helped recording them. and gangster rap wasn't really a thing back then. i think Rubin's first big acts were Beastie Boys and LL Cool J, before he started Def Jam with Russell Simmons. Simmons got in the game because his cousin knew some MCs or some shit,

Rubin viewed hip-hop as black punk, as opposed to mainstream black music back then (r&b, soul). in 80s new york hip hop groups only got booked outside of the blacksville in punk clubs.

the sum total of what music people listen to and the percentage by genre is more than what is on billboard charts. billboard is not representative of what everyone on earth listens to. and there is music with thousands of copies sold better than music with millions of copies sold.

Rap was going through a boom in the 2010s both in terms of charts and underground. The 2020s acts have failed to live up to those standards. We were getting a ton of innovation early-mid 2010s. It feels stale right now
>>
>>130055123
hip-hop's decline is because albums stopped mattering, and the rise of singles-only artists turned it completely disposable.
>>
>>130051461
>>130046332
>>130050459
these are the real reasons. jews were boosting rap which heavily relied on a majority white negro worshipping consumer base. the youth population in American is Asians and Hispanics and the Asians prefer kpop, edm and pop and Hispanics prefer reggaeton, corridos, or kpop. blacks are still rapping but they have always ignored whitey.
>>
>>130057202
>hip-hop's decline is because albums stopped mattering
100% factual. and when fags do drop albums it's 35 minutes of 2min tracks, no cohesion, mixtape level nonsense made purely for spotify playlists.
>>
>>130059889
It's the complete opposite, anon. Albums are hour plus slopfests comprised of 30 plus songs about nothing so they can maximise for raw streaming numbers and sales. See Mac & Cheese 5 for an extreme example of this. Agreed with the album being a dead format though, Kanye was right.
>>
>>130045940
If rap is dead then what’s alive? Rap is dead, rock is dead, it seems the only thing alive then is just pop music and edm.

It was more to do with a litany of drill rappers dying or being jailed all from NY, England and Chicago, even the soundcloud shit although it was undeniably mainstream had a corniness to it that drill lacked, though drill certainly still is corny in a different way.
>>
It's about time. BTW, not music.
>>
Social media has been curated to pushing racism for the last couple of years and now zoomers and Gen alpha won't listen to rap and hip hop on the basis of them been indoctrinated into being racist chuds

>>
>>130045940
in the mainstream, yes
it has split up into a ton of subgenres/styles that are more niche and less popular. instead of "big rap stars" kanye and drake it's "underground" stuff like bleood, xaviersobased and lazer dim
>>
obese and embarrassed times are tough for drizzy right now
