watched the Daniel Johnston doc which was a lot of fun especially with the schizo stuff which growing up with a legit schizo buddy I related to a lot, I always enjoyed some of his songs and definitely heard some talent in there but man it feels like they hes been overrated, there was something there, he had soul, and the lyrics are goo but I really think its a little undeserved, the story and weirdness of the guy is part of the love for it but if he didn't have such a crazy existence the music wouldn't be as praised
>>130046197This faggot sucks ass and should have died when he was a baby to spare us countless shitty songs and spare his poor parents all of that heartache
>>130046216thanks for the contribution especially in the rough vein of my thread
>>130046197He was getting plenty praise before he went completely cuckoo. He's not my thing, but he's got some good songs.
>>130046197Probably but a lot of indie/alt rockers just saw the soul they lack on him
>>130046197but have you stopped to consider true love WILL find you in the end, anon?
>>130046197>mentally ill man paraded by gen x hipstersseemed to be their thing. same with wesley willis. daniel had some good stuff but it's really shitty to see how he was treated, especially towards the end
>>130047579i found true love already unlike poor old Daniel J>>130047532I like speeding motorcycle and a couple others and I even used to complement him to my friend who didn't get it but after watching the doc I feel like my friend must've felt
He's very genuine which is pretty hard to be.
>>130046197Why were Mac Miller and Cobain so high on him
>>130046197He's pure in the fact that he made music for himself & his friends, first & foremost. There's no pretension there.Ambition never even entered into it.For him to go on to be championed by Sonic Youth, chased after by Kramer (ex-Butthole Surfers bassist) & Jad Fair (Half Japanese), admired by Kurt Cobain says it all.Hearing DJ for the first time must've been a mind expanding, revelatory experience for a young Lou Barlow at a time when he couldn't wait to crawl out from under the shadow of J Mascis & must've realized that treading ahead in Daniel Johnston's footsteps, making bedroom recordings was the best path forward to do it.It must also be said that DJ is without a doubt one of the most gnostically attuned folk musicians out there. His grasp of good & evil being of the same source is impeccable. His music is capital-H holy if you've got a heart to hear it, in a way that hits you dead center in the soul, while at the same time being insightful & often times hilarious.Schizo doesn't mean shit when the guy was essentially from outer space & therefore, was never meant to be understood by mere earth dwelling human cattle (a.k.a. plebs).https://youtu.be/pXubXrx6fBM?si=ZeX2tL5LWkxC6IW8
>>130046197I find him super relatable but also hope story, he was just a loner making music and working at shitty jobs but still managed to make a name for himself. >>130047601>after watching the doc I feel like my friend must've feltWhat do you mean? >>130048820True
