I don't really hear much influence from them in later punk music.
>>130046389Because they're shit and everyone knew it
>>130046389Are you joking??>Singing with an accent>Swearing in songs>Writing songs in direct opposition to authority>Loud distinctive guitars These two things alone set the album apart from every album that came before. Every british band since and many bands elsewhere directly copied John Lydons vocal style and try to find an album as subversive as it prior to its release. It pushed the bounderies so far that allowed other bands the freedom to do what they like
>>130046445literally everything you just listed was already fone a decade earlier by the who on my generation.
>>130046548No not in the way it was influential on other music. The Sex Pistols are literally a year zero band. They destroyed everything that came before.
>>130046574>the who>not influential to other music
>>130046389they were punk but their music wasn't
>>130046389Pre hardcore punk sounds tame now. Also a lot of current punk has a metal influence so yeah not exactly like the Sex Pistols
>>130046809Replace the word other with later, its what I meant to write. The thread is about punk music isnt it? The Sex Pistols defined punk along with the Ramones (although in different respects), punk bands were not influenced by the who, although admittedly the who were influential on the pistols
>>130046389>accelerated rhythm with grinding riffs>dirty guitar playing>raving lunatic with raspy vocals and electrocuted monkey stage presence>a literal zombie playing bass>band plays like they're about to trash the whole place (which they typically do)>"no future", "anarchy">fans jumping around on a pogo stick and generally acting like they've just been freed from a mental asylumThey kinda changed everythingI mean if you look at new wave, it's basically pop with an infusion of punk crazinessThat little drop of craziness went absolutely everywhere, from clothes to music to hair to attitudes and it never stopped influencing popular culture. It's become an ingredient in every decade ever since
>>130047533>accelerated rhythm with grinding riffsit's very mid tempo and plodding. riffs sound like kiss.
>>130047858Idk Kiss' 70s stuff sounds much more ornate in both composition and instrumentation. A lot of flourishes and sleek production. They owe that to the 60s. Poppy vocals too. They sound closer to BoC's mediocre output from that time than to punk.Plus in Kiss you can hear a lot more blues rock influence, a lot of their guitar stuff has that swing. Whereas in Sex Pistols it's only done in some Chuck Berry-style solos, more as a rocknroll quotation. In punk those griding riffs tend to linger on a note for a while and together with the drums sound like that motorik dynamic from krautrock. Except in the typical punk retarded/crazed wayPunks wanted to avoid sounding elaborate, fancy, clean, they wanted to sound like a sonic explosion. Which is far from what Kiss was doing
>>130046389Do the "all punks gotta be anarchists rah rah fight the man" types ever actually attempt to reconcile the fact that their movement was founded by a guy creating boy bands to sell clothes to teenagers?
>>130048208>70s kiss>ornate in both composition and instrumentation>A lot of flourishes and sleek productionwtf are you talking about? have you listened to their first few albums?
>>130046389That's true. They are influential only in attitude. For the music itself the real big influence was the Ramones. They invented the constant fast tempo, the characteristic guitar and bass playing, and the sloppy aesthetic. Their influence goes from pop punk, to hardcore and horror punk. Even the newest punk genres like egg punk are pretty much Ramones with synths and a lo-fi sound.
>>130046389>random catalonian band mog them
>>130046389They inspired people to start bands ffs. It isn't always about the sound.
Doesn't hold a candle to THE RAMONES
>>130049896Well yeah because UK music has always been fake and gay. The Ramones were an actual band, not a boy band made to sell clothes and fashion like the Sex Pistols and the Clash.
>>130049988British music is far more authentic and cuts straight to the core. Not to mention american bands copied British bands every single decade until the band scene in britain died out and unsurprisingly american rock music has been unoriginal ever since because it has had nothing to copy>not a boy band made to sell clothes and fashion like the Sex PistolsThe Ramones dressed up identical clothes with identical beatles haircuts and sung songs called ''Do you wanna dance'' and ''California sun'', the sex pistols were each distinctive and sung songs about anarchy, record labels and abortion. I don't why so many people latch on to comparisons with the pistols and the ramones anyway as they were actually very different bands.
>>130046389>Sid could be very belligerent. You wrote a lot about him “glassing” people in bars. Did you ever feel like he was putting you in danger?>>When we came to America, I would go with him to these cowboy bars and he was like a magnet to cowboys, just looking at him, and they would fight. One time, me and him and one of the bodyguards that was assigned to be looking after us got into a fight at some bar in Texas or somewhere. I thought, “You know what? I’ve had enough of this.”
>>130049988>>130049896The Ramones, the only band in history more popular for their t-shirts than their music. Oh the ironing.
>>130050565>the only band in history more popular for their t-shirts than their musicahem
>>130046389Sex pistols were invented by ad agencies to sell punk clothes and merch
>>130048852Yeah you think I'm just making shit up?They sounded like a mix between BoC and Journey back in the 70s
>>130050643That was the intention but what came out was something nobody could control anymore
>>130050643Dare to provide proof beyond what you read on youtube comment sections. The band had already formed before they were involved with Mclaren. There is no ad agency (that is a new version of the myth I haven't heard before) and the clothes that were sold were to be fair the embodiment of punk, so its hardly like they were some corperate schlok, they were swastikas for fuck sake
>>130046389Punk became wimpy and politically correct.Make punk hate again.
>>130046919>punk bands were not influenced by the whohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm-Zu5842dohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLYmWjTVjAA
Johnny Rotten has since been completely disowned by the punk scene and denounced as a fascist.
>>130052099Ah yes, the single punk scene that exist all over the world that care about the exact same things.
>>130052099The Pistols were originally a publicity stunt by two Jews to advertise a bondage gear shop they owned, who paid them to use drugs and act like assholes. It worked well and led a whole generation of young people to their drug deaths. Lydon probably knew this which was why he left the punk scene early on.
It also depends what era of punk you're talking about. As soon as "Nazi punks fuck off" punk came in, punk was dead. Black Flag...dead. They were so ridiculously commercialized. If it was a band you could buy a concert t shirt of, it probably wasn't punk. Most true punk bands were way too small to ever have mass produced t shirts.
>>130051811It's all tranny shit now. Went back and reviewed some of the lyrics of my favorite 90s punk bands, realized it was brainwashing, pied piper type of shit. I just didn't notice it at the time. I thought they were libertarians but it was really just "Fuck the system, question authority, but only when a Republican is president." Rancid rants about trans rights, Fat Mike is a transvestite, Offspring kicks out band members who don't inject clotshot, AFI is openly Satanic, Bad Religion still pretending they're counterculture, Danzig is still a massive faggot retard, The Dwarves are piss-Christ tier, it's all just a bunch of adult babies trying to drown in their own cum.
>>130052181>>130052262>>130052290Anon, you are mentally ill
>>130052290>Fat Mike is a transvestiteBecause he's a poser and is everything wrong with punk. He got into the punk scene as a kid because it was like "slumming" to him. He got to hang out with all these poor white trash street kids and it made him feel cool.Never mind the fact that his parents were wealthy Jews and he didn't come from a broken home like punks of the late 70s and 80s. And because of fags like him, punk rock has been appropriated by fucking pussies and makes me ashamed to ever admit I was a fan of punk. But one time I freaked out this "punk" girl who worked at a pizza place with me and I said "Oh you like punk huh? How about this?" I played Iron Cross for her and she became visibly uncomfortable and was like "uh...k? i'm not into street punk" or something like that. Fucking brainless bitch who just liked the aesthetic of punk. She would have never survived a hardcore show where she'd be passed around in the pit and felt up by 12 different dudes.
>>130046389retard. listen to english punk. also nirvana nevermind
>>130052358I formed an enduring and deep hatred of Fat Mike, the author of "Drugs are Good" and similar white slum classics, when he said in an interview that he never tried drugs well into his 30s, because he didn't want to imperil the success of his career. A lot of my friends fell into drugs/music as a 1-2 combo punch to their life as a form of escapism and they were doing it to his and similar music. People are responsible for their own actions but I find gratuitous fault with the influences and they do peddle influence in a deliberate, calculated way.
>>130052358>Iron CrossGood shit anon! Skinhead Glory! And i also know the struggle with these fake punks.
>>130052394>>130052358>>130052290Cool it with the antisemitism.
>>130052358>She would have never survived a hardcore show where she'd be passed around in the pit and felt up by 12 different dudeswhy are fascists so big on forcibly subjecting (most likely underage) females to non-consensual sex acts?
>>130052394I did not know that about Fat Mike, I just hated him from social media. I had mixed feelings about Bad Religion back then, now it is absolute farts to me.
>>130052358>I played shitty music for a girl and she didn't like itDamn...
>>130052506Bad Religion were part of that suburban punk scene, though not as bad. Most of that was on the West Coast where the suburban punks would go into the city and mingle with the poor street punks.X were another punk band that was artsy-fartsy punk. And even Jello Biafra and the Dead Kennedys, Jello's were pretty well off and were diehard liberals themselves so Jello's political views weren't even rebellious to his parents, they probably just didn't like the type of music his band played.I was more into punk for the anti-establishment and anti-social style of it and now, going back and listening to some of that shit just makes me cringe because it's not anti-establishment anymore...lol, it's like listening to CNN or something.
>>130052464t. guy who makes sure to only fuck landwhales older than 30 and always obtains a written consent form first
>>130052563I was punk because that’s what you did in SoCal by the beach. The rebellion act was all larping and being a kid. Grown men shouldn't be acting like teenagers rebelling against mom and dad. It’s incredibly lame.
>>130052583True but it was still about being anti-establishment and anti-social.Punks today are total wimps and punk rock got pussified in the 90s when Green Day and the Offspring and others hit it big in 94.True anti-establishment punks weren't being signed by major labels in the 80s as record labels tried to distance themselves from punk rock after the Sid Vicious & Nancy ordeal.Instead they labeled it New Wave and made it more pop oriented and only signed "punks" who were well behaved and willing to be corporate like Billy Idol.
>>130051416>they wore swastikas so they can’t be corporate!Dumb contemporary take
>>130052358Most of that hardcore scene was just an excuse for drunk wannabe /pol/ assholes to rant about women and minorities ruining everything.
>>130052181John Lydon is a magatard he didn’t leave punk because of le bazed noooticing but u can keep projecting ur retarded delusions onto everything
Punk was only a "fashion" to the suburban kids who wanted to be rebellious and adventurous and go "slumming" to see how the other half lived.Same thing happened with jazz where hipster whites would go to the black slums to listen to the "poor negroes" they knew nothing about. And rap is much like this for wealthy kids, mostly white, who think it's "cool" to be a badass gangster living in the hood. Meanwhile, they wouldn't last an hour in that environment. So it didn't take punk very long until the suburban hipsters took it over and appropriated it. However, the punk scene splintered by the early 80s where you had the more artst-fartsy punk bands for the suburban punk posers and you had hardcore street punk for the poor white trash/broken homes kids. But then gangsa rap began to appeal to poor kids of all races and by the 90s the punk scene was nothing but a fashion and it was a way for pussy suburban upper-middle class kids to LARP as being anti-social "rebels".So real punk died in the 80s and now it's just for pussies and, in today's clown world, there is nothing rebellious or anti-establishment about it. It pushes the establishment's agenda and is lame. It's been a while since I've seen someone dressed in punk rock style but when I see one I would fuck with them by mockingly saying "oh, are a punk rocker? Punk rock is COOL" just to laugh at them, whether they get it or not.
>>130046389Yes
>>130052641being against corporations and governments doesn't mean that you have to hate people for shit out of their control like skin color or sexuality, this is a redpill that faggots on this site can't understand
>>130052690
Johnny Rotten is somewhat based for calling out Jimmy Savile's noncery back in the day
>>130052641Yeah they're called skinheads and their music is trash.
>>130046389>inspires post-punk, new wave and indie rock well into the 1980sthere have been fewer more influential albums
>>130052718he didnt call out anything he made a provocative statement about how he “knew some rumours” and nothing else
>>130046574the who was HUGELY influential for the development of rock music including "punk". you're a tottaly ignorant and/or retard. there's nothing wrong with saying that you lost a discussion faggot
