I like Uncle Meat but neither this nor Burnt Weeny Sandwich particularly click overall for me. Not sure why exactly, but I think part of the reason is the length. The eclecticism really shines in Uncle Meat because it's really long and a lot of stuff is covered, while Weasels and BWS are too short and it's more "uneven set of tracks" than a "sprawling surreal patchwork".

weasels/sandwich are both just leftovers that zappa decided to release while MOI was breaking up. i don't really care for weasels either, but burnt weeny sandwich is great, if a bit unfocused. i like the cover track bookends on sandwich though.

It's actually a bit opposite for me, while neither really clicked i think i prefer Weasels, the less abstract songs are really good - Directly From My Heart to You, the bluesy Get A Little instrumental, My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama and The Orange County Lumber Truck. Also the noise title track is a fun way to end the album.

you have to listen to the notes he's not playing

Weasels ripped my flesh is top 3 zappa for me up there with we're only in it for the money and Joe's garage. I like the noise experimentation juxtaposed with the more traditional blues jams and catchy pop numbers

>noise experimentation juxtaposed with the more traditional blues jams
Could be described for ten thousand bands active back then

Okay? None of them sound quite like zappa and I think all things considered weasels is still amongst the best of its kind

The more experimental tracks on Money are good but all the doo-wop pastiche annoyed me. Frank's humor is hit or miss. I think his funniest stuff was actually in the 70s.

Aren't those two albums "leftover" tracks after the band had already broken up anyway? BWS is the better one, it has A Holiday In Berlin.

I think money has the best social commentary he ever did. I also love the doo wop stuff, its been a minute since ive listened but isnt "what's the ugliest part of your body" and the Reprise the only doo wop songs on that one? I think thats one of the highlights of the album, what's not to love? 'The Air' on uncle meat is also amazing

Checked and keked
>They recorded the double album Music to Eat (June 1971), which is apocryphally said to have been the second-lowest selling album in Columbia's history, second only to a yoga instructional record.
The vocalist has Beefheart vibes and tones.

Maybe I am misremembering the album, I'd have to listen to it again. But I definitely remember just kinda being mildly annoyed by a chunk of it. I don't mind the doo-wop stuff if he takes it a bit more seriously rather than going full parody with the vocals. There's a version from like 1960 of Fountain of Love which I think is great. The fuzz is really cool, and I think it was accidental cause the amp got soaked in the rain.
