I don't like SAW II, and truthfully, I don't get the praise it's lauded with. It's his weakest release, in my opinion.
What do you think, anon?
>>
I love SAW2 but I would have a much easier time listening to it front to back if that goddamn penultimate track wasn't fucking there
>>
>>130048444
you have to meet it halfway, supply some imagery or context in yout imagination. iy's great listening to it in the dark before going to sleep, its genericness and minimalism is a feature, not a bug.
>>
>>130048501
i love that 11 minutes track. track 2 and 4 from CD2 are the ones I struggle with
>>
>>130048569
this was nice
>>130048528
don't get me wrong, i like some of the soundscapes of the album (#10 is a masterpiece), but the album itself just doesn't come across as coherent to me. maybe i've got bad ears, who knows!
>>
>>130048591
it seems ultra-coherent to me, more so than other aphex albums. but i fell in love with this album a long time ago, when access to this kind of music was much more difficult.
>>
Ventolin EP is his only good release
>>
>>130048444
do you like ambient music generally?
>>
>>130048444
i like it. the first three songs are my favourites, and the rest of the album is great too.
>>
>>130048444
It's like being transported to another dimension
his best album easily
I actually don't like anything he released after this, I only like SAW and SAW II
he's best when making softer music
>>130048501
I skip that track lol
>>
>>130048670
I heard about it from newgrounds
>>
I'm fine with being a shallow Aphex Twin fan, the only album I like enough to listen to the majority of the songs on it is Drukqs.
>>
>>130048444
Fallout album
>>
>>130048444
It’s his only good album
>>
>>130048444
It's bloated. Could've been trimmed to a third the tracks.
>>
Analord > 26 MFC > SAW > ICBYD > Classics > Druqks > Syro > SAW2 > RDJ Album
>>
>>130048444
They are not samples, everything is Live simulated by synths. I praise that

nta but I like lots of ambient music. Not sure what that's supposed to imply but I find SAW II pretty boring. The first track is good and then the second is actually kinda bad. After that it's all just forgettable.
>>
>>130053392
Track 3 is one of his best on any album.
>>
>>130053368
exactly
>>
>>130053460
I just went back and listened to it. It's nice, I guess it just gets swallowed up in the rest of the tracks for me. Maybe if it was on a different album... I always listen to SAW II expecting to really like it and every time I try I just get more and more bored until I turn it off and go listen to something else.
>>
>>130050736
Ass ranking
>>
>>130053392
well I asked because if the answer was "no" then I'd just say it's not for that anon lol. Plenty of people go into SAWII expecting some crazy wacky RDJ beats and get disappointed when it's not that
There's a small handful of "pretty" major key ambient tracks on there, but most of it is sorta repetitive dissonant shit. I feel like I get why people can't get into it, but I think it's sick

Fair.

I think all the SAW II lovers here should try this album out. I feel like it's just so much better in almost every way but maybe that's just my personal taste. I guess you could say it doesn't hit the same minimalist notes as SAW II but even then I'd probably just take 12H by Donato Dozzy if that's what I was looking for

just threw it on, thanks for the rec. I've heard some other shit on this label and they're great
since this is from 2024 I will say though, the ambient landscape is a lot different now than it was in 1994. It's hard to say as someone born in '91 what SAWII sounded like in 94. I like SAWII enough but I do see it mostly as an artifact than something that still pushes boundaries today. Stone in Focus is the real outlier that's still pretty incredible even though IIRC that's only on certain editions.
Ik there was plenty of ambient shit before 94, but coming from this artist in this scene at this time in his career, it's definitely just a point in history if nothing else. Aphex is one of these guys where you can really feel his personality on most shit that he does and that definitely gets it some points
>>
>>130054248
True, a lot of that is probably why the album doesn't really resonate with me. I've taken some very light listens through 90s and early 2000s electronic but most of it was through working backwards. I think the first true electronic artist I got into was Four Tet, who I learned of from the post-rock world. Since he's a relatively modern artist I followed that line forward and didn't really go back to much early stuff until I had already developed a pretty expansive taste
>>
>>130048444

It's my favorite album. I just realized yesterday that it's been re-issued in complete, official CD form for the first time, I'll probably have to get on that pretty soon even though they STILL can't get the pie chart design right.
>>
>>130054322
it's kinda hard to do with electronic music desu. Like the occasional orbital track (something like belfast) will be transcendent but for the most part it's so outdated that it feels so not worth it lmao. I worked chronologically with hip hop a couple years ago, grew up with 90s shit but was kinda curious how it evolved from the beginning so I just started in the 80s and went forward with whatever albums were considered to be influential for each year. Was a fun little project but idk if I could do it for electronic shit generally. I'm happy to just accept some of the big names of the 90s and let my context fill in during my lifetime in the 00s
>>
>>130054372
Just wanna say I'm listening to Stone in Focus rn and I 100% agree with you on this one. This is the type of timeless ambient I can get behind. And you're probably right about that type of listening not working with electronic, generally anyway, cus I kinda feel the exact same about Orbital
>>
>>130054443
hell yeah. I totally forgot rhubarb is on that album too, that one's also a winner, probably even better to my taste
>>
>>130048444
I like spooky vibes
>>
>>130048444
>I don't like SAW II
SAW as a franchise is so badly written i rather watch a porno but saw ii was at least entertaining
>>
>>130053347
>everything is Live simulated by synths. I praise that
that's literally a cliche, why are you praising that?
>>
Love SAWII but I don't listen to it front to back I just put on the tunes I like the most
>>
>>130053347
The first track samples Seefeel you dumb nigger
>>
