Wow... okay, so they’re doin’ it again, huh? The silence is loud, y’know? Like, I keep checkin’ my emails, my feeds, but it’s all just... static. Just little bits here and there, like puzzle pieces but no picture. Did I miss somethin’? Maybe they’ll drop a new track, or a teaser, or maybe it’s just a dream. No, wait dreams are better. But I wanna hear it, I wanna hear the new sound, the old sound, the sound that makes me feel safe. They’re so tricky, huh? Like, they hide stuff but in plain sight. Just a little snippet maybe a crackle, maybe a whisper. That’s how I know it’s real, y’know? When I hear that crackle, that fuzz, I know they’re talkin’ to me. They never talk loud, just quiet hints. Like secrets, just for the few who listen. I listen. I wait. I wonder if it’s ready yet. Or maybe it’s not even done. Maybe they’re still workin’ on it, in some secret place, makin’ more of that magic. I keep thinkin’what if it’s out already? What if I missed it? But no, it’s gotta be coming. Or maybe it already did and I just don’t see it. That’s okay. I trust them. They know what they’re doin’. Just gotta wait for the right moment. Maybe a little more crackle, a little more fuzz. Then I’ll know. Oh, I hope it’s soon. I wanna feel that warmth again like a fuzzy blanket, like a distant memory. Just a little more patience, right? Yeah, just a little more. And then... maybe then, I’ll finally hear it.
Boards of Canada, man, I know they got somethin’ for us. Tape 05, I keep thinkin’ about Tape 05, like maybe it’s hidden somewhere, waitin’ for me. I keep watchin’, hopin’ they’ll give us a sign, just a little sign. I don’t understand all the words they use, all the clues, but I feel it in my bones Boards of Canada, they know what’s best. Tape 05, I keep prayin’ they’ll tell us more, just a little more, ‘cause I need to hear it. I gotta hear the sound, the secret sound, the one that makes everything okay. Sometimes I think I hear it in the static, in the quiet. Like, maybe it’s whisperin’ to me, just out of reach. I’m listenin’ so hard, waitin’ for the moment when they’ll spill it all, when they’ll open the floodgates. I believe in them I trust in the tape, Tape 05, like it’s some holy thing. They’re holdin’ it back, but I know it’s there, I know it’s waitin’ for us. Please, Boards of Canada, just tell us. Just say the words, show us the way. I’ll do whatever it takes. I’ll listen forever if I have to. Just don’t forget about us. We’re here, we’re ready. We believe. We’re part of it. Tape 05, come to us soon… please.
>>130052061Yo I’ve been thinkin’ what if Tape 05 is some kinda secret, huh? Like, hidden away in , man, some dark corner, just for the chosen ones. Boards of Canada, man, they’re playin’ us, yeah, but I know it’s all part of the trip. I just wanna trip on the sound, the pure, pure sound. It’s like… it’s like a cosmic joint, man. Blazin’ through the universe. Just tell me where to find it, please. I’ll smoke forever, listen forever just gimme that tape, that divine tape, so I can lose myself in the moment. I swear, I can feel it in my bones, like… they got the key, and we’re all just waitin’ to unlock it. Tape 05, baby, bring it home.

My dark and depressing theory about all of this is that it's all Warp's doing and that the brothers have nothing to do with any of it. I think it's public knowledge that they signed a contract which would lead to another album at some point in the future, but what if they refused and Warp just got tired of it so now we're getting a compilation release of unreleased music, all curated by warp, promoted by warp. Would kind of explain those garish posters, which still to me are too on the nose and garish to have come from BoC themselves.
>>130052408>a compilation release of unreleased musicI guess my disappointment would be on whether or not it's majority unreleased music that we've already heard or not. If it's mostly tracks from the vault that we've never heard from 30 to 10 years ago that would not be so bad, but if it's all tracks from Old Tunes and Random 35 tracks tape. Yeah i would be very disappointed
>>130052408Nigga that is the worst thing I've read all week. The posters seem a bit off, like they're trying too hard to seem meaningful and spoopy. Tape 05 renewed my hope, I went into it with the fear that it would fall flat, that they'd come out with a pretentious rehash piece to wow people after 13 years of silence but no, it was top tier. It has all the magic and charm of anything they've ever released and the fact that it's so short is what makes it so hopeful and captivating. I was thinking today, perhaps with the seven hexagons representing the wholeness and completion of seven, that this whole thing might be the intended to be the culmination of their whole lifes work. They're perfections and pour themselves intensely into everything they do. If it is a true BOC release it'll be the last thing we ever officially get from them and if that's the case, they'll release something extraordinary.
>>130051720is this BoC telling us to revert back to the more simpler things? our connection to one another? faith, community, and togetherness?
>>130052654I agree that Tape 05 is top tier, I love it and the video, still doesn't explain the posters being bad.
>>130052176>>130052201>>130052224least unhealthily obsessed BoC cultist
>>130052408Really don't think they'd go against BoC's wishes, not sure there's even been that kind of carry on from Warp, at least with their big beasts? Loads of their artists take a long while between releases. If anything could get the duo to go public and voice their dissatisfaction it would be that. Tape 05 sounds way too polished and positioned as a successor to the end of TH as a song to be some random offcut
>>130051704Yeah, that's right.
They got rid of the cool water tower image on their bandcamp :(
>>130052654Yeah, I think this is going to be their last album. I'm surprised the brothers still got it, they're both getting pretty old at this point.

Petition to make BOC make the album font smaller
>>130061865nah, the tapes weren't an ARG, they were performance art. Notice how they all suffer generation loss, then we get to see tape 05, an "early copy" and it's textures of the 80s and a lost past. Now look at the track listings and how they reference cosmology/distant future. The point is very likely existentialist and focused on how systems extend well beyond our own lifetimes and instigating actions and how original intention and even design decays/becomes deviant from original intention as it's increasingly removed from its origin point. ig if you were to condense it to a single concept, I'd call it "entropy" but that's probably too narrow since there is still an obvious concern with cause and effect.

>>130062001Now hold on
if the inferno teaser youtube video is Introit then damn this is an ominous way to start the album, it has a very urgent sound too the pulsing synth cool track
>After thirteen years of silence from the compound, during which anticipation has grown day by day, Boards of Canada finally return. Inferno retains their signature melodies and atmospheres, drawing on the esoteric influences explored in Societas X Tape (their 2019 NTS mix for Warp Records’ 30th anniversary) and the darker ambience introduced on Tomorrow’s Harvest, further deepened by an expanded role for speech soundbites.
Boomkat has a listing up while Bleep takes a dumphttps://boomkat.com/products/inferno-0e1beeef-c15f-4c8f-98ac-17ca9f2cbcec
>>130062001i like the Tomorrow's Harvest one, though it would be better without the text
https://fr.ra.co/news/85026>An extension of the dark, cultish energy that permeated Tomorrow's Harvest, Inferno spans sensual machine funk, Southern Gothic, demonic, ritualistic music à la Coil, and the kind of subtly emotional ambience that's become Boards of Canada's calling card.

>>130062261its more like geogaddi + tomorrow harvest
>>130061630the font is so big it takes away from the actual photograph, it's barely legible enough to be evocative of anything, there's 3 people on the cover but you only see 1 of them because the rest are hidden behind that gigantic text, Kind of a weird choice. Obviously going for super fucking 70s vibes with it but its a weird pairing to have that text backed against the spooky layered photography. Maybe I'll warm up to it, but I doubt it.
>>130062293fuck yes dude...
>>130062087AIEEEEEE ITS HEROBRIAN
>>130061987I don't think it looks good either, but it isn't too out of place with BoC's distinctly late 70s/early 80s aesthetic. However, some of those slipmat images look like they belong to a synthwave album.
>>130062307after looking at the record selves i see the vision.the color choice is great but i do think a better photo could have been used for the cover, or maybe the intent is for it to be illegible visually, thus inferno/fire whatever singed-ish photo.green and orange is goated though.
I love this, did they themselves make the video? They should have just done the cover themselves, whoever they hired to do the album and sleeve art is not up to par.

>>130063170>they don't seem to have anything original or pertinent to say with this themeAfter the collapse of society (Tomorrows Harvest), humanity reemerges to cleanse itself in righteous fury (Inferno). I thought this was pretty obvious from Tape 05
>>130063187>>130063194if something looks "hellish" that is still an engagement with christian theology
I pre-ordered the CD, but i'm honestly approaching this one with caution. Something feels off, like it wasn't what I was expecting given the marketing material. The album and track names feel a bit too on-the-nose as well>>130063171yeah, I'm feeling the same way, but i'll reserve judgment until release
This is Hell Interface.
Can shop shit from China for free. From the UK to Norway shipping €14,11. 666
>>130063210what about a creepy child is hellish
>>130063413because China pays the shipping. anyway, dont forget the VAT.
>>130062430>bleep was $5 cheaper including shippingTo what country?
seems like the "limited" red vinyl is slowly appearing on every store that sells warp. havent ordered anything from Bleep/UK after brexit because its too damn expensive now.
>>130063454The republic of texas. total was $61 shipped for the deluxe.
>New Boards of CanadaMaybe I won't kill myself
>>130063454>>130063530now that i look at it turntable lab has it for $55 shipped. lowest i've seen it so far.
Just saw the news. Ibds habbenig.
hyped beyond belief but I am genuinely bummed out about the cover being ugly.
The new album tracklist is EPIC
As someone who was around for the last album, I'd say people should temper their expectations - that one came and went pretty quick and had actually zero impact
>>130063726Laughing at how much time youve been wasting to hate on an electronic artist with a pretty niche fanbase
>>130063726Oh my fucking god shut up you fucking loser holy shit turn off the computer and talk to your mom or something
>>130063726that would be an epic troll
>>130063765I'm really only hoping it's better than TH. Not a bad album, but definitely their least impactful on the whole. I'm not expecting this to be on the same level as even TCH, let alone the first two. Would love to be wrong though.
>>130063726Trying too hard.
>>130062064>ritualistic music à la CoilI expect at least one of the bros to appear front-view full naked in one of the press photos.
>>130063765As someone who was around for a lot longer: TH isn't even that bad. I wasn't a huge fan at first but it grew on me. New Seeds, Nothing is Real and Cold Earth are great tracks. I even enjoy Palace Posy, goofy as it sounds. Per usual, the standard BoC vignette-type tracks build atmosphere. So far the only disappointing thing about this release are the visual aesthetics. Not-great album artwork and the track names are also a little meh.Thirteen years between releases is long enjoy for expectations to grow wildly out of control. Approach with caution, but the rest of the BoC catalogue is testament to the fact it probably won't be BAD.
>>130063777the trips have spoken
This band's more ambient synth passages are way better than their stuff with percussion. I'm only hyped because of Tape 05.
>>130062064>sensual machine funkBeen real quiet for post-african blankcore since this new genre dropped.
>having a spiritual connection to some lame af wallpaper musicdo uncs really
>>130062064it is full of the sensual machine funk of an african american teenager
>>130051704>fat lesbian music
>>130063805>>130063872i don't know if it's possible for a new boards of canada to be 'exciting'/impactful musically.i don't know what that sounds like. it certainly wouldn't sound like geogaddi or music has the right. it can't coast on the strength of, now well-worn, aesthetics.is it possible to do it just based on the strength of composition?i don't see it. at best you get something that sounds nice enough.
> >13006172519. I’m A Fat Lesbian20. Please Kill Me21. Still Trapped (bonus track)
>>130063726Spending effort on this is epic!
>>130064026You'd think the current internet's obsession with the genre and aesthetics they pioneered would give them new inspiration. The tapes might even be their own take on analog horror. I'm coping obviously.
>130064002>130064009Stay in your kpop thread
>>130063872>the track names are also a little meh.Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan and The Word Becomes Flesh might be some off favourite BoC track titles already. can't wait. >>130063891Anything post MHTRTC I agree with you, but fucking love the hip hop drums on that. I was also incredibly hyped cause of tape 05 though, it reminded me of Tears From The Compound Eye
>>130064002an inferno grade tard
>>130064087>Spending effortRight clicking on a couple of listings and clicking Inspect isn't that big of an effort.
>>130062358any frame here would be better than what they went with>>130062821it's a real cult (scientology offshoot with some alleged connections to manson) but yeah some of their recordings were sampled in that album
>>130063726No one who is trolling this painstakingly could truly hate the bros. You have ascended tard status to top tier shitposter anon. I respect the hustle.
>>130064026Does it get hard to breathe with your head up your ass?
REAL FAN GANG! DAY 1 LTD PREORDER SECURED STARS
>>130063872>So far the only disappointing thing about this release are the visual aesthetics. Not-great album artwork I think the absolute opposite i really like the cover it’s fucking awesome and the posters and the video teaser, i didn’t like the logo tho but they didn’t put it on the album cover so that’s great
>>130064026>it can't coast on the strength of, now well-worn, aesthetics. You're right: it cannot. Already, aesthetically, that much is apparent. I think Tape 05 looked nice. The posters and album artwork, not so much. That being said, BoC album covers (outside Geogaddi and IABPOITC) are actually pretty ratchet. Even back in the 90s and early aughts they didn't look so nice.>is it possible to do it just based on the strength of composition?I think they've proven themselves to be competent enough songwriters to manage something better than "nice enough." Societas x Tape was a cool listen. BoC to me was always more krautrock, more early-industrial inspired. Think Meat Beat Manifesto and less "wallpaper" or "car commercial" music. When you hear an artist attempt a BoC sound, it always comes off very amateurish. At the very least, we'll get to hear what 30+ years of experience culminates in.
>>130064091Good point, their aesthetic is in an the moment. Certainly wouldn't hurt their chances and who knows? A new generation might pick up on them with this release.
>Schermafbeeldingdo the dutch really?
>>130064152my sides
>>130062645There are a lot of titles related to death (as I interpret them). Perhaps the album will be about afterlife, as many people assumed
>>130064152I appreciate the patience it must have took to get grok to make a goatse without letting it know it's explicit shit.
The TCH cover is great, this one is great too other than the massive logo. I hate that the generic horror movie girl poster is one of the inlays though, but that's only an issue for us physical fags now.
>>130063726>not (Thank You Friendly Stranger)
>>130063932>I heard a piece of the Boards From Canada carefully: I think it would be very helpful if they listen to some proper electronic music. Because they would then immediately stop with all these post-African repetitions, and they would look for changing tempi and changing rhythms, and they would not allow to repeat any rhythm if it were varied to some extent and if it did not have a direction in its sequence of variations.Johann Sebastian Bach
>>130064147it's very roomy in here
>>130062554I have fully sperged out and followed the discussion on about 8 different forums and I don't think anyone was too worried about this being an EP. I do hope there's a companion EP to this though, there cant only be an album's worth of cool tracks after 13 years
man I hope the other tracks are on the same level as Tape 05.
>>130064250>this one is great too other than the massive logoYeah but it has the massive logo, which ruins the whole cover. So it's hard not to be upset
>>130064402lets contact them and tell them to change itIm sure they will understand
fuck I already have changed by mind about the cover, it makes the rest of the cover look all blurry and shimmering if you look at it for a while. Based
I've never went all out on a release before nor bragged about it here but I owe so much to them
>>130051704>New BOC>thought OP was referring to Blue Oyster CultI'm an old
>>130063726The dedication is unreal, I miss not being an adult
>>130064759yeah this is the first vinyl I have bought in years. Seeing as it hasn't sold out yet I'm guessing there's still a lot of the red vinyl to sell which is cool, any fan not living under a rock or dirt poor right now who wants one can buy one.might get the CD at some point too if I really like the album
>>130052224Holden Caulfield is that you?
the funniest thing about the cover is that if someone posted that before any new album announcements, everyone would say it was obviously fake and fanmade. hopefully it fits the album's music well
itt: pick-me redditors bitching about a /mu/core group being popular on reddit
>>130063872>>130063765I feel like I'm in a minority here, both really liking TH and hoping the new album is a continuation of that sound. It's just so good. I remember being 19 when it dropped though, I hated it so much, lmao, now I just realise I was too immature to get it.
>>130065064it was a slow burn for sure. much more ambient and mood-based as a whole than the previous few albums. helps that it got a lot more relevant with the way the world went in the following decade.it did have some fucking bangers though. reach for the dead was like a top 5 song before the album even dropped.
>>130064778>Blue Oyster CultWho?
WE CAN LISTEN TO THIS WHILE WE WAIThttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT4q6HfUn4s
>>130065528This track unironically got me into BoC
>>130065104I remember listening to Reach for the dead before the album dropped. The hype was immense, never felt anything like it for an upcoming album. Great album that grew on me but still I couldn't help feeling a bit let down listening to the entire thing, hoping to hear their older ambient sound I love so dearly. Tape 05 does remind me of that sound though, and my expectations are high for Inferno.
I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but who the hell approved the comically large text? It kind of destroys the visual continuity from all their prior releases, and I think it would actually look great if the text was more subtle
>>130065726>who the hell approved the comically large text?
>>130065726WE ARE BACKTHE COMEBACK THIS IS USAFTER 13 YEARSHELLO WE ARE HERE YOU FUCKING RETARDED ASSHOLE OF A FUCKING FAILURE OF A SHITHOLE OF A RETARDED ASSBGRGER LIFETHIS IS OUR LOGOBOARDS OF CANADAINFERNO INFERNOINFERNOYOU GONNA BURN TO DEATH IN A FUCKING ATOMIC BURST.Do you understand it now?
>>130065726I would like to see edits from people here on how they would prefer it. I think it would be interesting to see if those edits really are better than the official one.
>>130064152certified watmm classic
Is Boards of Canada actually reddit? I like their music but i dont think i can be that excited about them if they are reddit. The cult following and pseudo intellectuals trying to „figure them out“ and trying to solve their „puzzles“ kind of make them reddit.
>>130065841They are most def 4chan. They hail the orange people
>>130065807How about this?
>>130065852way better lmfao
This place is worse than reddit
The art is pure shite. Videos were good, great even. Still looking forward to this, since the Tape 05 was good.>>130065807>from people hereyou're expecting too much.>>130065841I know your shitposting but they used reddit as a selling point in the "sellig points" column https://files.catbox.moe/rspvgc.jpg
>>130065841They come across as Redditors in interviews
>>130065807obviously we've yet to see if the music fits the cover at all, but one thing that comes to mind is the whole vernal equinox orange sun imagery. maybe they could have done something different and incorporate an orange sun into the album title in some clever way instead of it being gigantic glowing text. the photo itself is still great imo and fits the tone, it's really just the size of the text
>>130065726I like the large text. It gives it me an uneasy feeling
>>130065852The problem with this is that the text is too clean compared to the image behind it. Official one is superior. I think the orange color text of the official one is better than the white text as well.
>>130065852much worse
Aaaaaaa the redditors posts are hurting my feelings so much right now!!!
>>130065933>>130065945what if it just didn't have text at all?
>>130065897yeah i immediately didn’t like this cover and album title. i feel like they went a little too on the nose with TH; the album name/cover/song titles. i’m hoping the music is solid, and i have no doubt it will be fine but i much prefer the more tangible sound and obscurity that came from mhtrtc/geogaddi
Muh fonts is too big aaaaaaaahhhhhhh
>>130065897I am serious. I boycotted movies and music for years even though i was interested in them just because the overwhelming majority of reddit liked them. I even stopped listening to some music that i really liked or not watch some movies again even though i really liked them just because i found out that they are reddit. Makes me sad because i was so excited for that new album but i guess they will be put on the list too. Maybe someone can convince me they are not reddit. I would really appreciate it. >>130065908Fuck>>130065851Do they?

>>130065726>>130065852>>130065972How about someone makes an edit of the official cover, and just makes the text smaller and puts it into a corner. Like how it is with Geogaddi. That might be better. The emphasis will be more on the actual picture and less on the BOC and Inferno texts.
