How old were you when you realized you need to know music theory to understand music? yes even rap and country
>>
i realized that it involves a lot of post-African repetitions
>>
Don't care! BUT, I am learning theory and I found an excellent book (that doesn't get near enough attention - in fact I've never really heard of it until recently when I stumbled upon it). It's called Beginning Theory For Adults - The Grown-up Approach To Music Theory - Alfred Publishing, 2003.

It's available on Annas-archive and it's freaking great! Applies to piano and guitarists. It has enough words to explain the topics in detail yet also has excercises and an answer key so you can check your progress. The only thing this scan doesn't include is the matching CD audio. Which sucks because it would greatly help to hear the tracks that go along with what the book talks about. I'm thinking about buying this book eventually because it's so good. Would recommend you check it out digitally first.
