What are some uncomfortable truths? Something that everyone knows but nobody will admit because of "muh nostalgia", "muh sold out", etc.

Truth: Sammy Hagar did nothing wrong. Van Halen would have been better off if Hagar was the original frontman. Roth was a sloppy vocalist with little control of his range. He could hit notes, but not always intentionally. He was also a drunk, coked up mess who was only good live for his antics, not his singing. The style changes when Hagar joined were the choices of Eddie Van Halen and would have happened regardless of Sammy Hagar.

If Sammy Hagar was the original singer, they'd have more success early on and through the 90's. Roth was more of a liability than an asset.

Prog rock might be hard to play but it isn't hard to write. The hardest part about songwriting is cutting away all the fat to make it short and simple but actually good. It isn't hard to write a 20 minute "epic" when half of it is seagull noises and drum solos, but writing a catchy 2 minute song is hard.

Writing a catchy 15 second song is harder than writing a catchy 2 minute song

So the most talented musicians make radio jingles?

Writing a catchy 3 second song is harder than writing a catchy 15 second song

>jingle writers in the 1950s were peak musicians

Sometimes music sounds all the same like that brian wilson song about leavening bread or something but there’s this tim and eric instructional video i guess? about that all music is turkey and the straw and i believe that but i don’t accept that

Alice Glasse's accusations aren't based in reality and she was fine with everything at the time.

most talented songwriters, yes probably.

very uncomfortable truth confirmed. Surprised you didn't get trips.

here's another very uncomfortable truth:
Sammy Hagar gave Van Halen 10 years they wouldn't have had with David Lee Roth. They would have died like dogs when grunge hit if Dave was still singing.

and live Van Halen was objectively better with Sammy than Dave.

src: me. I saw all 3 major lineups of Van Halen. The Gary Cherone one was great live, but everybody poops on it because VH III was one of the most cringeworthy albums of all time.

Roth is an exciting frontman and Hagar is buttrock in person form
