Was there really huge outrage cause of the drums? They literally sound like the drums you'd hear on a Korn, Limp Bizkit or Slipknot album that were released before St. Anger. I don't get it, it doesn't sound out of place at all
>>130079158It's cause the songs suck and people like to shit on LarsIf the songs were good it wouldn't have really mattered
>>130079158Yeah now that I’ve gotten into more slam style metal I appreciate the trash can snare morePlus Frantic and Some Kind of Monster are decent songs
All the songs are shit and twice the length they should beFrantic and title track are kinda decent
>>130079227>>130080994holy filtered
>>130079158It was that album that showed the decline had progressed to a point of no return. Most bands have one.
>>130082684But load and reload had already happened
>>130079158>They literally sound like the drums you'd hear on a Korn, Limp Bizkit or Slipknot albumno, the CLANG shit was what you heard on third-tier nu-metal that played under things like WCW promos
>>130079158>They literally sound like the drums you'd hear on a Korn, Limp Bizkit or Slipknot albumYou say that like it's a good thing when it's pretty much the actual reason, their inspiration was shit.
>>130083279Also true, it wasn't the same really. Lars awkwardly tried to emulate that because le currently cool thing.
>>130079158If someone is used to and expects the corny ass 80s metal with autotune, then naturally they're going to dislike this raw nu-metal adjacent style they went with.Just because it deviated from the core audience's preferences doesn't mean the album itself has no merit. I'm the furthest thing from a Metallica fan and it wasn't until I came across this album in particular which actually intersects with my taste that I realized they could be good.So your confusion is borne from not realizing it was Metallica fans rejecting a pretty "un-Metallica-like" album, and furthermore, in a newfangled style which doesn't even have nostalgic appeal to other music they already liked like Load/Reload, which did not have as big a hate campaign as St Anger.
>>130083181those were decent albums.
>>130083723>raw nu-metal adjacent stylewhat the fuck are you listening to?they just play blues rock and/or repeated 1st year guitarist riffs now.don't post again.you know jack shit about music.
>>130083753>they just play blues rockliterally stopped reading right there*maybe* one could say "The Unnamed Feeling" resembles Blues, in the most ancillary ways imaginable, but if so, I can assure you such was the furthest thing from my mind whilst listening to it repeatedly; if anything, they demonstrate then how to make Blues not fucking suck
I’ve come to appreciate it as an honest misstep. The documentary is hilarious, but it showed that they still gave a shit about their music and made a real effort to try something different. The main issue was their complete lack of inspiration, reflected in the terrible lyrics.
>>130079158You had to be there anon. Its like if Pantera just switched genres out of nowhere to do hip hop. People hated the tone and attitude of load & reload and wanted old school Metallica back. If you been to their shows, everybody goes apeshit over any other song re Black Album, then go silent and dead if they play anything new or recent. In 10 years people are going to be saying Death Magnetic is a masterpiece when the next metallica album comes out and so on. Also Lars is a whiny faggot who can't hold a tune and Bob Rock essentially had to carry the album for a group of 38 year old bitchy millionares who took themselves way too seriously.
>>130085366you clearly were not thereyou're fucking trash either way and you don't know what you're sayingi fucking wish bob rock did what he had done for the black album but the situation was fairly different
>>130084885>misstep>complete lack of inspiration>terrible lyricsall wrong
>>130079158All mainstream metal sucks dick. There was no controversy over Metallica being overrated shit for like the eighth time.
