I use a darkglass combo 500 but I have all the amp FXs off. The bridge pickup with the rusty box and the Alpha omicron is just the best tone I've had yet. I'm really glad I pulled the trigger. It feels nice knowing I'm actually near the end of my cycle of buying and trying. I've known for a while now that I wanted 2 standard tuning basses with different string types and 1 downtuned bass. Finding the right brand was the hard part. Fender held me over and I'll never forget my p bass ever. It actually makes me sad to leave it after it's held me down for this last year.

p bass is for blues/jazz/pop/country imo. but it does incredibly well out of the box in those genres. if you want to play farty jaco “jazz” you can get a bridge pickup. I think you’re interested in other genres so it makes sense to get something else. p bass is good at providing a fat full and smooth bottom end, not really sitting on top of a busy mix imo

I just watched KDH's video going through Dublin's guitar shops. Didn't recognize half of the brands, but they were mostly all (super)strat copies. Almost no original designs from these non-boomer companies.

People are scared of new things. And if people don't buy enough new things, to get it to the point of mass production, those new things are going to cost even more. And that makes them even less likely to get picked up.

So recording can be a great learning tool. If you are just starting out you shouldn't dump a lot of money on an interface. Most inexpensive ones have high enough quality that nobody would notice. If you buy a sm57 be sure to buy new from a genuine shure dealer. There are so many chinese 57 fakes out there. There are other options than the57.

One of the joys of owning a vintage tube amp is you never know what kind of idiot was in it before. Mid 60s Gibson Falcon. I got at an estate sale. Sounded like shit. Needed a new speaker because it had a cheap pos in it. Originally, I popped it open thinking I would have to recap it. I was right. It had been recapped by an idiot who put mismatched caps on the power tubes. Bad idea. I replaced them. He had put proper value caps elsewhere, so I didn't touch them. It was running well for a year and started to fart out sporadically. I figured it was dirty connections somewhere, so I grabbed the deoxit and pulled the old girl apart. I've gotten into the habit of pushing gently on components, to see if there is any broken leads or loose connections. The other pair of caps that guy had put in had bad solder joints and they wiggled when pushed. The mechanical connection had loosened and started to have intermittent connection. Fart, fart, fart.
She's soldered back together and has cleaned, smooth pots. Ready for another 60 years of jamming.

I'm not worked up. It sounds good.... after I did some simple mods. I've had some incredible amps. This thing is a little different. I like the trem and reverb. The gain structure is a bit different and I like the way the preamp sounds when it gets hit with a touch of juice from a Nobels ODR-1. I wouldn't suggest these to anybody. Completely personal.
