Let's debate
not music

>>130087709Has anyone noticed that black people really don't like their own history? Any time you see them rank rappers they'll put Jay Z and Kendrick Lamar over Rakim and Prodigy. Slick Rick almost non-existent. Basketball players? Kevin Durant over Bill Russell. They actively try to undermine Wilt's records. They are the ultimate prisoners of the moment.
>>130087978Influence doesn't mean overall quality.
>>130088148Jay Z does not hold a candle to Rakim, Prodigy, Big L, etc.
>>130087709>Big L that low>50 that low>No Project PatGarbage ass list.
1. Bling Bling Boy2. The Robot from Spongebob3. The Caveman from Spongebob4. The guy who did the Pokerap
>>130087709>No Kool G Rap
Where is MGK???
>>130087709Why Mos Def is so low?
>>130087709i like how people dickride DOOM yet NO ONE bought his Albums when he was still alive.
>>130087978No damn black people made that list. Probably Rolling Stones or whatever faggot company that will rate a Lupe Album a 6/10 and a Cardi B Album 8/10.
>>130087709>t. 45-50 year old black man who lives “for the culture”Real top 5 (for all intents and purposes)1. Kanye2. Eminem3. Lil Wayne4. Drake5. Future or Young Thug
>>130089352it's a perfectly believable list for a millennial / gen x black person. younger blacks would just be worse though, having shit like kanye and future in the top 10 >>130089373
>>130087709>travis scott
If that list had been written 30 years ago, it would be1) Busta Rhymes2) Sticky FIngaz3) Violent J4) Eminem
>>130087709even the best rappers are corny as fuck. it's all about the beat. rappers are interchangeable and seriously anyone can do it well enough if they dedicated a few weeks to practicing and gaining some overconfidence. not everyone can make a good beat though.
>lauryn hillif she was literally anything other than a black woman, that album would have been nothing. media hype around a black woman rapper made that album so much more than any of its own artistic merits. also, you can't release one album and be the 10th best rapper of all time.
>>130089999>it's all about the beatquads of truthI wish there was a best producers list, and if there is one, I wish people cared about it
>>130089999Anyone can make a good beat because it just involves stealing from real musicNice quads though
lol
>>130090134is it stealing if it's paid for? most of the songs that upset you because they're "stealing from real music" paid the original artists. now download a free sampler or daw and show us how easy it is.
>>130090241You mean they pay the record labels who own the music of the dead artists
>>130090336i'm going by the goalposts of the person i'm responding to. yes, whoever owns the damn music. music fans...
>>130090377Creatively, yes it's stealing still. And then there's the fact that many of them don't clear their samples. And then there's the fact that most of them are using AI now which steals inherently...
>>130090400creatively everyone's stealing by the way. i've never heard a rock song that wasn't somehow derivative of something before it. people would not like pure creativity. it still has to sound like music to us. the ones that don't clear end up giving up all the money made if the song that uses the sample by chance makes any real money. ai steals like how human artists steal. it gets ideas from two or more sources and combines them.
